Thursday, August 16, 2012 - I decanted the wine for two hours, poured it back into the bottle and consumed it over two days. It offered ripe fruits, cherry, rose petals, some leather, some cedarwood and roasted coffee beans (the latter changing to coffee and cocoa with time) on the nose. Even after two hours in the decanter the wine still was tightly wound, and almost seemed one-dimensional on the palate at first glance. With more attention and time the palate revealed ripe fruits, cherry, chocolate, some coffee, a hint of tea and an earthy touch, paired with good acidity, fine and smooth tannins and good grip. The medium-bodied wine was juicy, and apart from the alcohol being a little out of balance also very round, with a plush and slightly creamy texture. It kept improving with air. On day two the fruit seemed a little riper and more raisiny, and the tannins seemed a little dustier, and I potentially preferred the wine on day one. Start drinking in 2014.
