Saturday, December 22, 2012 - very well crafted wine, the 2009 Pontet Canet is more refined and sophisticated than many other 09's i've tasted - it's not overwhelmed by the characteristics of the vintage yet there is a wealth of fruit and concentration to boot.
there's a complex bouquet of boysenberry, minerals, graphite and oak that is not overpowering but tantalizing. the same sensations predominate with a smooth entry and good midpalate. Again, I didn't find the massive extract that characterizes many 09s i've tried thus far, but more of a polished effort. It improved and opened up over a couple hours. very nice effort
