2001 Faustino Rioja I Gran Reserva

Community Tasting Note

Does not like this wine:

Wednesday, July 29, 2015 - Absurd jammy style, overcooked fruit in the mouth and artificial aromas of spices and bouillon cube. Earthy? No way. A third row GR lacking any elegance. If this bottle is representative of what Decanter magazine consider a great bottle, something ought to be done in London.
Conclusion: complicated you become a Rioja lover if enjoyed this. Quite difficult you really appreciate other Rioja wineries. Probably you also liked Smoking Loon PN. Sadly.

Tristemente.

And you should certainly know that there is usually bottle variation with Spanish Riojas, plus the GR need 20-30 years of age to come into their prime drinking. Cheers.

I agree a GR needs time, at least 15 years, to show its beauty. Unfortunately at this point Faustino I is nothing more that a poor sample of what a GR is. Moreover I've no complaints against Faustino winery. They are what they were. Incompressible for that Decanter award. Anything else.
A bottle variation? Of course that possibility always exists. I've got one more bottle remaining in my cellar in order to see if there will be any positive evolution. Seriously I've firm doubts. Sorry. But I wish to be wrong. I promise it.
    Cheers!
