Friday, July 1, 2011 - ok, nose a bit closed, but some mild fruit. Taste, very litte, could have been the bottle, but it had very little fruit, harsh tannins, and a strong window cleaner note throughout. We dumped it after half a glass.

2/3/2013 10:15:00 PM - Eric: I read your review looking back at other vintages after I tasted the 2010. I would encourage you to never throw a bottle out like you say you did on this wine unless you are sure it is bad (i.e. Corked, Turned to vinegar) I think what you call strong window cleaner taste may be what I call a metallic taste. That metallic taste, I find, tends to be one that really masks the flavors that can be hidden in the wine. Two days sitting on the counter and the distracting taste was gone. I've recently run into a large number of wines that have improved significantly with simple sitting in a re-corked bottle over several days.
I started doing this after reading "Love by the Glass" by Gaiter and Brecher and I think it has helped me educate my palate and figure out if some wines may need time to develop.

Life is too short to drink bad wine but don’t be afraid to taste a “bad” wine over time—It may be we just opened a great wine too early…You can always throw it out later!

I'm skeptical if letting it sit would have helped. Normally the windex/chemically stuff will blow off after a 1/2 -1 hr, especially on a young wine. I've had some really old wines that needed 3-6 hrs for bad stuff to blow off, but over a couple of days? As I said, it may have been a bad bottle. I'm willing to try other Becker wines when I get down to Texas, but its unlikely that I'm going to put the time and effort into saving a $10 wine.
