Sunday, February 10, 2013 - In general I have not been a fan of the village burgundies and my cellar reflects that. I recently purchased the 09 Rousseau line-up including the Gevrey Chambertin village.
Pop and pour, bright red fruits, cran-raspberry juice, rhubarb, sweet and spicy spices, flower and earth. Delicate sweet fruits, bright acidity, sap, a hint of tar and soft sweet tannins. What is so compelling is that this is a quintessential Rousseau, very expressive, pure, jammy, sappy, soft, warm, spicy and earthy. This is a delicious Rousseau where the basic flavor profile is identical to the 09 Rousseau Chambertin, just nor as complex and precise. Lovely and delicious wine.
I realize that my rating is relatively high for a village Gevrey but it is a great Rousseau experience.
