This is deep purple with a rim that's still ruby. The nose was dense and not very revealing at first but with lots of swirling we got black cherry, leather and eventually blackberry. Lots of sweet spice and although this doesn't see new oak we noticed some vanilla as well. This is quite acidic and with wonderful fine tannins that coat the mouth. It opened up a bit in the carafe but to be honest we finished it quite quickly. This is full-bodied and the finish is long.
Obviously, this needs a few more years for the chemistry to do its thing but we did enjoy this today. Even happier knowing we've laid some down.
