Thursday, September 29, 2011 - This was from a good bottle of this wine (our group had a second bottle which was not so fresh)...the color on this wine is striking. It actually looks like a wine from the 1980s, rather than 1961. The nose is entrancing - at once powerful and elegant. Somewhat disappointingly, the palate is not up to the nose, but still a very solid and appealing wine. There is some fruit yet, but the wine has mainly gone over to the more cedary and leathery end of the spectrum. This is well and good...we age Bordeaux for a reason - we want it to morph into something different. The wine is not soft by any stretch. One can feel the tensile strength possessed by this wine that allowed it to persevere to age 50. Very nice and very Margaux.
