Monday, November 3, 2014 - Very strange young showing. Bitter and closed with dark masses of tannin hitting the lower palate like a block of granite. After about 3 hours decanting, the texture loosens up and becomes more velvety. The fruit is primarily concentrated, sweet blackberry (so sweet it is almost like candy, like Pixie Stix when drawing air), bitter tea leaves, Asian spices, some blueberry, darker wood spice, tobacco, cassis. Very dry and reserved, with a somewhat hollow mid-palate that yields an unpleasant aftertaste of, again, overly sweet candied blackberry and bitter tannin. I would say this really needs 2-3 years more.
