Thursday, October 16, 2008 - WFA Bordeaux 2004 tasting by the Wine Review; 10/16/2008-10/17/2008 (Suntec City, Singapore): I thought this was one of the best wines of the tasting and an affirmation of the growing improvements over the last decade or so. It certainly showed that Poyferre can make good wines in more classic vintages after the stupendous 2003. Slightly darker colour than the other left bank wines. Nose was warm, earthy and meaty, with some spiced cloves and lurking dark fruit. Very complex, very St Julien. Real bright acid on the palate, with a little sprinkling of pepper and pure blackcurrant fruit. Just a little green but very nicely balanced indeed. It finish with a sparkling freshness and some length. The only issue I have with the wine is that it should seem complete, but is somehow lacking something. TK who tasted it with me said that it ticked all the boxes but lacked a little oomph. I think that was just about on the spot. Still, a very well-made wine that deserves cellaring.
