Friday, May 11, 2012 - The first of 12 recently purchased. Decanted for 1 hour with negligible sediment. Half the bottle was reserved to a 375ml for reevaluation over the next two days.

Medium ruby in color with initially restrained aromas of cherries, roast beef, and baking spices. The flavor profile was typical with suggestions of dried cherries, red meat, subtle herbs, anise, spice, truffle, and green tea . The tannins are firm without being harsh and there is a solid backbone of acidity. It is medium bodied with a moderate intensity that seemed to dip somewhat in mid palette. The finish is clean although a little on the short side at this point. It did open throughout the meal and benefitted considerably from being consumed with food.

This is a well balanced, straightforward wine that pairs nicely with tomato based dishes and is a pleasure to drink. I expect it will become more open with another 2-3 years and hold for several more. But, I doubt that it will gain much in complexity in that time which isn't a problem for me because it is so pleasurable now. Being more accessible now, I will drink these and wait on the 2006. This is a terrific value at the $16/btl I paid.

We finished the half btl I reserved and I didn't find a perceptible change from my original impressions.

Decanted for one hour, insignificant sediment. This was served with grilled veggies and sausage and finished with a selection of cheeses.
Delicious and more defined than a year ago, it is progressing well with clear potential for further development.

Sunday, Mar 8, 2015 UPDATE
Decanted for one hour, insignificant sediment. This was served with pasta and marinara sauce, pork braciola, piselli al olio, and finished with a selection of cheeses.
This opened nicely after an hour in the decanter and continued to open throughout the meal. This is starting to exhibit some nice secondary notes and has the balance and smooth tannins that would indicate continuing evolution. It is really moving into its sweet spot now showing excellent maturing Sangiovese character. 92 points for this bottle.
