Wednesday, October 28, 2015 - Opened and decanted 1.5 hours ahead of seared pork cutlets and baked garlic potatoes. Dark, cloudy Crimson color. Floral nose brings whiffs of fresh cherries, strawberries, red lavender oil, and fresh cut cedar wood. The palate is full, square, textured, and extracted, bringing blackberries, black currant, creme de cassis, chocolate cherries, caramel mocha, musty horse saddle, wild herbs, dried tobacco, and lingering notes of juicy strawberry compote into the finish, which has delicate tannins, strong acidity, but unintegrated oak. Overall, seems the oak and acidity are not quite calibrated yet, especially in the finish where there is a slight bite. Entering drinking window but should be best 2017-2030.
