Thursday, March 21, 2013 - I really enjoyed this, but it need a bit more cellar time. Decanted so the wine could warm up to drinking temperature. This was deep inky purple in the glass and had an elegant nose of black, blue fruit and violets towards the edges of the wine glass. In the mouth the wine had good acidity and mineral that beefed things up a bit, but the tastes of cassis, blackberry and dark plum, mixed with a bit of black cherry. Initial nuances are starting to form including some baking spice and mocha with a touch of vanilla. A bit of loamy earth as well. For a $30 Napa Cab, this was so smooth in its tannins, very silky. The finish was decent in length and the fruits/vanilla remained in my thoughts for over a minute. It paired nicely with grilled steak on top of mushroom risotto.
