Monday, January 16, 2012 - On the nose, citrus/lemon, apple and a creamy sweetness on the nose. More of the same on the palate, which is smoother and more resolved than I expected. Good balancing acidity and off-dry character make this a great match for a variety of foods. Tonight's Thai curry chicken paired nicely. I suspect a blue cheese / endive salad would also be a winner. Just a hint of tightness on the finish that will probably fade with more bottle age. I think this is drinking very well, perhaps close to peak, as a food wine. Another couple years might serve it will as a sipper on its own. Like the previous taster, I'm uncharacteristically gravitating to this bottle over a nice bottle of red also opened ('97 Mt. Veeder Cab).
