90 Points

Wednesday, May 13, 2015 - 3rd consecutive evening of comparing some 10 yr tawny (see my note on Graham and Taylor 10 yr tawnies)...

Clear, light red-amber. Clean, developed nose is strikingly bright, medium intensity with caramel, toffee, butter scotch, molasses and brown sugar wrapped around a red fruit core. Palate is much lighter than the Graham and Taylor, with less apparent alcohol and crisper acidity (especially vs Graham). The medium sweetness is not as cloying as the Graham, but the tannins are softer and less drying on the finish than the Taylor. The medium length finish has all the creme brulee characteristics of the nose, with some orange peel and light christmas cake spice.

This one is sure to be a real crowd pleaser. It's light, charming, and versatile. Chilled down it would make a great liquid desert (or pairing) after a heavy meal or on a warm summer night. I've been searching for the right 10 year tawny to keep on hand, and the Otima 10 certainly has a lighthearted and unique appeal.
