Sunday, July 29, 2012 - Cork fell apart upon opening. Some ullage - level is at high shoulder. Dark ruby with bricking on the meniscus. Initial nose has some funk but underlying fruit is showing. First taste is similar. Decanted and filtered and set aside for 3 hours. Upon return, the wine had opened up and was remarkable. The liveliness of the fruit was fantastic. Dark berries, with additional layers of mocha, forest floor, a small hint of spices, raspberry. There was not the overpowering sense of terroir that I anticipated with a 60 year old bordeaux. Instead, a wine that exhibited finesse and style. Truly magnificent.
