Saturday, March 16, 2013 - Color: Opaque Ruby/Violet
Smell: After the alcohol burned up my nose there were lingering notes of char, vanilla, blueberries, and dark fruits
Taste: Blueberries, clove, bacon, tobacco, and cedar with a melange of dark fruits that weave in and out over the long finish.
Overall: My initial impression is that this is a wine that will be greatly enjoyed by almost everyone that enjoys California wines. This is a big, bold wine, but there's also some nice structure here. The 15.6% alcohol is only slightly evedent on the nose after 15 minutes in the decanter...and not at all on the palate. This is a well balanced wine and I think it could go for several years more. Full body, mid+ fruit, med acidity, medium tannin, and a long finish. Even if it's not really my style. I'd buy another one if I find it again for retail price...just to see how it might age. Outstanding!!
