89 Points

Sunday, October 28, 2012 - Maybe I was expecting too much as this wine was marketed as one of the highest rated Spanish wines by Wine Spectator in 2010. It's a nice bottle with a deep red color. It required about an hour or so to open up and blow off some of the heat. The palate is all about black cherry, toasted oak, and espresso. Medium bodied with smooth tannins. Bright acidity really lifts this wine. There is a fair amount of heat on the back end. This might just be a case of expecting too much, but this is not a 90+ wine for me, though it is a well made wine. Doesn't seem like it's for long term cellaring. Drink now or over the next couple years.

Day 2: Flavors have integrated very well overnight. You now get some nice red and green pepper corn, plum, as well as a bit of cured meat. Nice smooth finish with no hint of alc. and a long lingering finish. This has come around very nicely.

Maybe I was too hard on the score day one but I'm keeping it. (Most people kill a bottle in a couple of hours. :-) )
