96 Points

Monday, October 6, 2014 - Consumed over three days; among the most memorable tasting experiences of this year. Opened Friday morning and finished Sunday evening. Upon opening, it featured a remarkably appealing bouquet and a smooth, polished mouthfeel. After about 8 hours of slow-oxed air, the wine began to show its teeth, and by the second day tremendous tannic structure had come out to play.

A wine of countless layers, including dark chocolate, espresso, gravel, ink, graphite, juniper, mint, eucalyptus, Mediterranean herbs, Tuscan dustiness, alluvial silt, blackcurrant, and crème de cassis. Stupendous texture and balance, incredible harmony. Structure to go enhances a finish that does not quit. By Sunday, this stunner had fully come into its own, delivering indescribably seamless pleasure. Charming, sophisticated, and stalwart.

Recommend holding this as it will likely improve. Indeed, this could score 97+ with 5+ years of cellaring. If drinking now, decant for at least 8 hours. This is the third vintage of Oreno it has been my privilege to sample, and for my money it ranks among the very best Super Tuscans in quality, and unquestionably the best valued.
