Opened at Otto e Mezzo in HK. Slowly enjoyed over a long lunch.
This was wonderful bubbly. The colour was lighter than I would have expected from a 24 year old champagne, and still very fresh. The nose wafted white flowers and notes of honey, mixed in with grapefruit and citrus. Slightly richer accents of brioche, yeastiness and toastiness were there but took a bit of air to come more to the fore. Great acidity providing precision and balance throughout. Really enjoyable.
Great spot right now and very good for my tastes. Will keep at this level for a while assuming good provenance, and may even slightly improve. However if you have an itch for aged Cristal, don't hesitate to enjoy - this won't let you down! Thanks again to M for the wonderful treat.

Fully mature champagne that is drinking well now. Nose is showing great with citrus, white flower, brioche, honey, nuttiness and slightly stone fruit. Palate is elegance, round and harmonious.

Good looking bottle with a medium yellow center said this bottle was treated well. The nose was very quiet at first but picked up some intensity with air.
In the mouth, this was classic Cristal with it refinement and yet lovely subtle richness. However, the effervescence was definitely fading.
Drink ASAP in my book. However, this wine was best 2 hours after being open and arguably reached 95 points.

Thanksgiving day. This bottle was long time resident in my cellar, a gift from a friend. I thought this dinner was as good an excuse as any to open it. Medium chill, drank pre and post dinner - over about 2.5 hours.
Medium gold color. Bubbles were fined and still youthful - fresh over the time we drank it. Crisp nose showing citrus, brioche, almond. Palate repeats adding some orchard fruit, lemon zest, toast, batonnage. Chalky mineral notes through the mid and back palate. Smooth texture, refined.
I don't have the palate experience with Champagne that I do with still wines, hard for me to make educated comparisons to other vintages or comparable producers. This seems to be nicely aged while still showing the crispness and effervescence of a younger sparkling wine. Beautiful showing, glad I decided to open it!

I often find Cristal to be too strict, linear and lacking complexity, surely because they were drunk too young. At over 20 yrs age this had shed its tightness and had texture and complexity of a great white burgundy. Consumate elegance and refinement, a real treat. Thanks John!! 96+

A very delineated nose of almond shavings with honeysuckle floral complexity, with baked apple introduce fresh, zesty flavors in the mouth. Delicious stuff. Long and fresh with compelling chalky minerality throughout. Very expressive for Cristal. No rush in drinking.

First Unmasked Dinner with Steve & Lucie (Our Place): Slo-oxed for 15 minutes. The color was a clear, light yellow-gold. The effervescence was less than moderate, and the perlage was fine and pinpoint. The nose was clean, with aromas of citrus, brioche, and some minerality. On the medium palate, the wine was dry, with medium plus acidity, and a delicate mousse. There were flavors of white peach, lemon citrus, brioche, and minerality. The finish was medium to plus and toasty. The quality is outstanding, but this wine did not excite anyone as much as the bottle of 1999 Pol Roger Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill that we all shared on 12/31/19.

Brought by Davyd to dinner at Otto Ristorante. Drank over 2 hours. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, gold colour. Legs. Fine perlage. Nose is cleam, medium+ intensity, with aromas of citrus lemon drops, dripping with bits of surrounding honey cream, brioche, lots of minerals - steely and stony, white peaches. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12%), medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of honeyed lemon drops, white peaches, steely minerality, salty saline minerals, toasted bread with hints of smoke. And then comes the laser focused long long finish. Outstanding quality. The tautness and focus of this Cristal is amazing. It isn't off the blocks flashy in your face but the tension builds up in the mouth as the mouth-feel is so good, and then oh the orgasmic release of the long long finish. Still rather fresh and feels like it could go on for years!

(Blind tasting) Full, complex and powerful nose. Mature. Ripe apple, cream, chalk, chocolate and orange peel in lovely combination. Medium-fullish/fullish body. Creamy and fresh. Very good grip and long finish. Chocolate, ripe apple, orange peel. Rich, round and harmonious. À pointe!

Closed, a little disappointing. Some depth evident and some brioche on the nose, especially on the first pour. But ungiving thereafter for most of the night.

Holiday Champagne Gala (Park Ridge Country Club): Small glass, brief note. Fleshy and very forward and fun right now, but just moderate complexity with rounded textures. Drink near-term. Others enjoyed this more than I did tonight.

Wine Workshop: An evening with Cristal (Atera - 77 Worth Street in NYC): First of the champagnes that actually was showing a touch of age (the earlier ones were all very young). There's a hint of caramel. Still pretty high acidity. A bit of a quicker finish. I didn't think this was as good as the '02, but appreciated it compared to the '00 mostly because it was starting to get to some secondary notes.

I love Cristal but drinking this after the gorgeous '85 Heidsieck "Charlie" it showed rather shrill with very high acidity. I'm sure it just needs more time to show itself but it was really one-dimensional tonight. 91+

Killer nose with nut fruit, chrysantheum, brioche and bread crumb. Palate was sweet due to the high dosage and warm vintage. It opened up beautifully in the glass over dinner. 92+

From jero. Lovely nose. Lemon juice, yellow apples, smoke and some wood. More wood coming through on the back palate. Huge concentration. Vibrant. Piercing. Great minerality and backbone. Definitely leaves a lasting impression. In this format it would clearly benefit from more cellar time, perhaps 8-10 years? Quite an experience now, though. 94p now, with quite a bit of upside.
Fleshy chardonnay notes came through, white flower, the usual Cristal lactic edge. But a bit buttoned-up. Nice and did evolve with air, so does it just need a lot more time in bottle? Tough to say.

1999 LOUIS ROEDERER CRISTAL- 8 gpl; 57% Pinot Noir, 43% Chardonnay; I`ve had a few 99`s in the past and all have been marvellous so I was expecting marvellous here; I`m also thinking that at age 19, this should be more evolved than what we got from the others here and moving closer to its apogee; although it had a light yellow gold colour, there was a slight oxidative note in the nose that remained throughout; the taste profile had more stone fruit character along with some honeysuckle and caramel in lieu of the ripe citrus notes I recall from the past; it was full bodied, had a viscous texture and serious acidity; I`m thinking this is a bottle variation and yet it still had redeeming qualities, I did not dump it and in fact, I`ll add more to my cellar.

Light golden color, fresh, angel food cake, pure red apple, hint almonds, very elegant in mouth, fine fine bubbles, Doing really well now, could drink this forever. Not a challenging wine or full of character, just elegant and pure and easy to enjoy partly due to 55% PN, 1999 warm vintage, and relatively high doseage (11g/l). This is not to say it is a slouch. Far from it. The Mercedes of Champagnes. Conventional, but the quality is undeniable. Starting a nice evolution, and will go for 5-10+ more. Taylor's steakhouse Khoi. 93+

This was a killer--gorgeous complex character, fruit, minerals, yeast, all in perfect balance, savory notes shining through with power and elegance. Guessed '90 BdB. Blind at Dirty Dozen tasting. My WOTN (with very strong contenders).

Beautiful medium lemon colour, very lemony on the nose with a great zesty freshness. As it opens up, aromas move to more toast and almond aromas with only a hint of primary green apple. The mousse is creamy and delicate. Dry but not too dry, with delicious acidity - high but enticing and mouth watering. Everything is integrated and woven together into a fine balance. The flavours go from cooked sweet apples, a little pear and then to brioche and cream and they linger big time... yum!

A Bunch of Great Burgs at St. Genevieve (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Light-medium gold color. Drank 1 glass over 90 minutes. I gotta say I might have been more excited to drink this tonight than anything else when I saw it get posted. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, this bottle just didn't show. Nowhere near my previous experience with this. Some thought it was mildly corked and somewhat oxidized. I didn't think so on the nose, and at first I thought the nose seemed quite promising with some nice toasty, leesy , bread dough aromas, but that seemed to fade off. The palate was just ok for me, kind of bland and just your run of the mill N/V decent Champagne. There was something in the mid palate and finish that wasn't right...not overt corkiness, but that may have been the issue. Clearly this was not a correct bottle. In fact, I enjoyed the Charlemagne more than this tonight. Sad, for such a great bottle.

Same note as previous tasting. Bubbles are small and slow and orderly accend to the top. Ripe apple, pear, a bit of spice, minerality from mid palate. In hindsight, seems overpriced.

Light golden in color with small bubbles. Nose of grapefruit, ripe pear and hint of lime, and of coz pain grille. In the mouth, very fine balance of acidity and sweetness, there is also good dose of mineral and spice, elegant finish which last. While the 1990 has more strength, this is more about finesse and tension.

This really sang tonight :) Served before oysters and enjoyed well through my main course of sea bass. Very pale gold color. Beautiful, consistent bead for the entire experience. First sips were just a touch tart, of lemon meringue and yeast. After that and throughout: apricot nose and pure silken white floral mousse on the palate. Medium-long finish. Just a wonderful blend of freshness and ease.

Foamy partyish frothy attack that irons out to a lemony mineral mid and finishing with hints of sweet almond biscotti and green apples. It evolved quite a bit in the glass , gaining more creaminess over time but still shelling lithe of green apple foam.

Yeast and a fresh doughy quality on the nose. Floral, minerals, effervescent, lemon zest, fresh fruit palate. Drinks light & accessible, fresh. Some minerally ernergy builds on the palate. This either improved in the glass or I had to adjust to its taste versus a much different wine before it.

Memorable Grand Champagne Tasting (St. Paul, MN): Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 45 minutes. Ultra-fine bubbles, fresh baking bread, very floral, bright tree fruit, and pear with a kiss of orange. The palate is beautifully balanced, finessed, elegant, lively, yeast, Meyer lemon, citrus, orange, fine minerals, and another long finish. I wish I could drink this more often. Gorgeous.

Epic Champagne Tasting (St. Paul, MN): Not bad but the price point for me would scare me away. I have never been impressed with Cristal compared to Krug of Vilmart wines. Very delicate offering with orange marmalade, lemon, citrus, and toast. Medium finish but lacks the complexity of the Krug and Tattinger.
Flat out gorgeous. We didn't have much as the pours had to be reduced, but nice mousse, creamy texture although filled with the tiniest bubbles that seemed endless. A touch of mandarin orange citrus acidity and limestone minerals held this well with lovely orchard fruit. The best thing about this wine, and many a cristal is that is just slides down your throat effortlessly, and seamlessly leaving a lip smacking finish that lingers on and on. Wish I had a full glass. The yeasty-toasty notes and fruit stayed with me for quite a while.
Charleston Bad-Ass Burgundy Thursday (S1s House): Very smooth, silky mousse. Lemon custard, red apples, nuts, and notes of wet slate. Hits every corner of the palate and dances for a good minute on the finish.
This still has a couple decades of life left on it too.

Delightful tiny bubbles. Wonderful yeasty smell. Notes of lemon, something I can only describe as birthday cake without the frosting, and almonds, all revealed in gradual layers rather than all at once. The lingering finish resembles the delicious taste you enjoy after oysters on the half shell, but without even mild fishiness, if that makes any sense at all. Probably the best champagne I have had, eclipsing the 2004 Cristal. Solid 94+.
1999 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut 6/10/2007. Having had this wine with my friend at our private outdoor party. It really did dazzled both of us. After accidentally spilling first glass on brand new hand made Persian rugs we sipped this wine with great enjoyment - it was a jaw dropping experience: the lemon citrus is very palpable, also peach, apple, almond, then blueberry, blackberry - just whole variety of forest bed. The finish is colossal and it's not quelled by abundance of aggressive bubbles. The persistence is amazing - it stays in mouth well over minute. Aristocratic, immensely crafted. Price is overly set, but reflects demand. 92-94 in Parker scale. Euro 180,-
Bordeaux 1999 overview (Restaurant Boreas, Heeze): Light golden colour. Perfect pearls. The bouquet of this wine is down-right gorgeous... It's smooth, ripe and round yet very youthful and clear. A scrumptious, seductive basket of fruit (peaches and apricots prevail), accompanied by flinty minerality and some cheeky candy-shop notes. Open and generous on the palate, very pure, almost sunny, really complex. Next to all the glamorous fruit (again peaches and apricots, but also wild strawberries and baked apples), there are tasty nuances of honey roasted almonds, brioche and sponge cake. The aftertaste is long and dry and, while it's also slightly rugged, I suspect this wine needs some more time in the cellar. No hints of oxidation yet. Full of freshness and ripe fruit. Sexy, splendid, clean and complex. 18.5-19/20

Started rather reserved. Opened up to give notes of golden apple, lemon curd and peach, toasty notes, hazelnut to almond, dough, some mushroomy earth and slight vegetal aroma. Fullbodied palate with sweetish fruit, decent acidity and smooth - though pretty quick- moussé. Feels a bit cloying before the acidity kicks in. It's there but really needed to wake up. Mid-length finish with grapefruity bitterness and some toast. A good Champagne, but doesn't live up to its pedigree. Not very focused and not flamboyant enough.

The starter for an impressive wine list that night. 1999 Louis Roedere Cristal, 2007 Richard Peres & Fils Corton Charlemagne, 1970 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1970 Chateau Latour and 1998 Chateau D'Yquem.
The Cristal displays an elegance of light touch. The champagne out of the bottle was a light golden color with lots of small bubbles that emmitted a wondeful nose of green apples and flowers. Sweeter than other champagnes the taste does linger on in the mouth.

Pale yellow to light gold color. Lots of small bubbles. Green apples and honeysuckle othe nose with pretty much the same on the palate. Light in body high acid with not a whole lot showing. Im not sure if we found this wine in a bad period of if this is all its got to show....We had this on the same night as a NV Krug which turned out to be a mistake. The Krug outclassed it in every way. Still a VERY nice bottle, just a small bit disappointed.

Glorious Rhône lunch at 28-50 (London): Very "tutti-fruity" with a juicy bubblegum aspect to it. Yes, I know, crazy descriptors. A very fine bead though and wonderfully lacy and elegant, very feminine. I should like to see what this turns into as it burns off the fruit.

Delicious. Apples, cream, nuts. Smooth and rich, but with long, taut finish. Not super expressive on the nose. And I would have welcomed a little more acidity. But went down so nice. Definitely one of the best (if not the most distinctive) champagnes I have ever had; but I haven't had a lot, so the score is pretty arbitrary.

I'm not sure how this wine will age since there didn't seem to be much acidity as it was full of fat red gala apples. Almost too much sweet fruit and cream for me. Not my style but the opulence is certainly attractive.

At once flirty and reticent, seemingly quite sweet yet with a core of hard extract. The bottle went quick enough though, well under an hour between the two of us, on balance I would say this is drinking very well, no need to wait, but if it blossomed more in the next decade it would not surprise me.

IWFSC Governors Lunch (Mirani's Restaurant): I'm not usually a huge fan (especially for the px point) of the slightly sweet style of Cristal, but I have to say on this day from these bottles (three different 750s) the wine was singing. More of a toasty, yeasty, and rich character here than I recall from previous examples too. Nice.

Trip to Rob and Carol's (Huntington Beach, CA): lives up to the hype for sure. opened to celebrate my brother's engagement and this lived up to the occassion. toasty yellow colored with just an intoxicating nose of meyer lemons, white flowers, fresh peachers, rasberry, toast and hazelnut. immensely complex nose and the palate even more so. this wine has tremendous acidity and power, yet seems to remain elegant and restrained at the same time. lemon zest, chalk, almond, toasted bagel and rose petal flavors just blast all over the palate. the finish is seemingly endless. it will surely age well, and should be aged for at least several years. however, the power and hardcore concentration this wine packs now is quite amazing.

Supremely elegant. A light straw color (though I didn't have the best light to view), this opens on the nose with lush notes of biscuits, meyer lemon and pear. Fruity on the palate with a lot of concentration, this balances notes of luxurious, ripe pear and apple with beautiful, streamlined acidity. Hangs on deftly on the finish showing notes of spice and more fruit as it sails into the sunset. A truly incredible young Cristal.

Nice bottle of wine, but not worth the ridiculous price. Better warmer than on the cool side, as the nose was reticent out of the fridge. Almost smells like a BdB out of the gate, once it warms and opens it becomes a very elegant, mouthcoating champagne with sugar-coated blueberries/raspberry notes with nice lift to the flavors and a lengthy, creamy finish.

GreenDrazi comes to NC! (Sullivan's- Raleigh, NC): Popped and poured. This wine exhibited a pale golden color. On the crisp nose, citrus and nutty elements were present. Had another bottle after my recent Cristal epiphany and it was quite nice but not justified at the price by any means. A light almost copper color. A very nice, although not that big, nose of yellow apples, a little oxidation and after a while dry cocoa. Great stuff! Rich taste of apples, bread and raspberries. An intriguing nose that draws you into the wine with forest floor, strawberry, toast and apples. The palate is elegant and there is a balanced vein of acidity along the length of the wine into a long finish, but it left me with a feeling that there was something missing in terms of intensity and depth of flavour. Perhaps it just needs more time but my first taste of Cristal didn't really live up to its lofty reputation.

93 now with potential for 1-2 more points; The predominant flavors were green apples and a hint of vanilla. Fine bubbles and mousse and seemed very focused but also very young. One of the things I find distinctive in Cristal is a lovely almost creamy texture and this one was no exception. Even though very young it seemed like this bottle should deliver a bit more for the $$$.

Establishment's Second Birthday (Establishment Restaurant, Manchester): I thought this was going to be far, far too young, tight and infanticide. But actually, it was very giving and open. I don't see the 98 pointer that Rovani has raved about with my bottle. The fabulously explosive spray of pinpoint bubbles is fun to watch, though. But the classical Cristal signature sweet yellow fruit nose vanished in about 5 minutes and the wine tasted slightly bitter and metallic. Perhaps it's in a bad mood at such a young age, but at $200 per, I won't find out how it ages.

The first few sips were great, but I have to say that after that this was hardly a special bottle of Champagne. It wasn't bad by any means, but when you start talking about a $200 bottle it better have a little more wow factor. I'd take 3 bottles of the 1998 Deutz Blanc de Blancs over Cristal any day. It's a flat out better wine at a third of the price. I will not buy Cristal again.

A bold, precise nose of great purity and definition with some toasty apple notes but little in the way of autolysis character. Youthful and austere on the palate with a balanced fine bead. A seemingly light dosage that really begs age. Quite raw at this point.

WOW!! Not overrated by any means. Well worth every cent. Baked apple pie sums it up. A lot of green apple, baked dough/yeasty characteristics with a touch of nuttiness. Full bodied, perfect perilage, and gorgeous aromas. Best Champagne I have ever tasted by far.

Tasted it blind together with Cristal 1999, Cristal Vinotheque 1999 and Dom P2 2003 Among 7 friends, the verdict is mixed with no clear winner.
Dom P2 2003 have pronounced nose intensity with notes of toast, bread, mineral, sea shell. High acidity and long finish.
Cristal 1999 from palate taste similar to Dom P2, notes of toast, brioche, mineral, baked red apple.
Cristal Vinotheque 1999 tasted fresher, with green notes, grapefruit, lemon, pear, green apple.

Doftar av väldigt tydlig mjölksyrakultur de första timmarna, mjöl, deg och vingummi

The flavours go from cooked sweet apples, a little pear and then to brioche and cream and they linger big time... yum!

Kan nog utvecklas en hel del och ska bli kul att se vad som händer om 10 år eller så

At once flirty and reticent, seemingly quite sweet yet with a core of hard extract. The bottle went quick enough though, well under an hour between the two of us, on balance I would say this is drinking very well, no need to wait, but if it blossomed more in the next decade it would not surprise me.

More of a toasty, yeasty, and rich character here than I recall from previous examples too. Nice.

Hangs on deftly on the finish showing notes of spice and more fruit as it sails into the sunset. A truly incredible young Cristal.

Almost smells like a BdB out of the gate, once it warms and opens it becomes a very elegant, mouthcoating champagne with sugar-coated blueberries/raspberry notes with nice lift to the flavors and a lengthy, creamy finish.
