2004 and 2007 Riesling Spatlese (Schug Winery): Light gold color, markedly darker than wines A and B. Sealed with a stainless steel crown cap! Honeyed nose, with some apricot. Not as crisp as the first two wines in this flight, sweet botrytis. Despite the color and the crown cap, this didn't seem oxidized, and was a nice wine. Alc. 11% per label. My #3 wine, group's #3 (29 total points).

Wrote these notes before looking at my tasting notes from a year ago and my impression seems very similar. Aromas of ripe apple, yellow peaches, honey and spice with a little chalky minerality. Spice and smoke evident of botrytis on the finish. What was interesting was that this had 11% alcohol compared to 7.5% from a Mosel Spatlese before it.

2004 Riesling Spatlese Tasting (Shannon's): An interesting closure with a plastic capsule surrounding a metal bottle cap. Very Rheingau on the nose, which was even more evident after having two Spatleses from the Mosel. A riper honeyed apple and stonefruit nose with baking spices and just a touch of chalky minerality. It seemed to show that it contained just a little bit of botrytis. Perhaps a touch less acid than the Mosels we tasted, but with good balance overall and good length. A charming wine.
