At a blind tasting, theme was Merlot, minimum 10 years old. Obviously new world, all guessed California. Dark purple, no real signs of age. Nose had dark fruits, plums, cassis. Palate had some complexity, but one could really taste the alcohol. Long finish. Started off the tasting, was soon eclipsed. Not bad, not great.

Others seem to have found this faded, I still get good (aged) fruit, ripe plumb. Good tannic and acidic structure. I recall not loving this wine when I first bought it some years ago but I think it's aged well.

PnP, splash decant, returned to bottle. Clear, deep red/brown/purple. Rich nose. This was disappointing. Heavy, black fruit, flat, earthy, maybe waited too long. Full body, long finish. $43

Thought this has really matured since tasting it at the winery years ago. The tannins have softened, there's some cherry and blackberry's on the nose and pallet, with hints of tobacco.

My last and best bottle. Once again there are aromas and flavors of cherry and plum but now I get spices and leather as well. I also like the Bordeaux green glass bottle. I believe I'll get more of this.

This was a very nice wine. Purple and opaque right to the edge of the glass; I'm left to wonder if a little petit verdot might have made it into the mix. The nose is dominated by floral notes. The palate adds dark fruit, chocolate and mocha. The finish is medium in duration and features sour cherries. 5+13+16+8=92

Tasted at Silver Oak today, lovely nose of dark fruit, very open and aromatic today with hints of black cherry and plum, on the palate not as complex tasting as previous bottles, slightly soft but tasty today, medium body and medium finish.

Ripe black fruit aromas, modest spice, approachable and nicely balanced. Forward cherry flavors, well balanced and reasonably well textured. Moderate length and intensity.

Interesting nose - pasture like and musty with very little fruit. The wine is light bodied with a light red fruit flavor on the palate that fades quickly. The wine is lightly tannic in the finish and falls flat - the finish could be longer.

This wine was poured at Silver Oak Oakville after tasting the cabernet sauvignon flight, lovely rich black cherry fruit nose , more of the same on the palate with hints of currants, italian leather, and spice, medium body, elegant merlot, easy to drink, medium finish.

Lovely rich black cherry fruit on the nose with hints of earth, cedar and chocolate, more of the same on the palate, lovely medium finish, mouthdrying merlot at its best. Will age for four or more years but why wait, decant for one hour and serve, tasted fifteen times, similar results.

Dan's Notes: Our 2008 Twomey Single Vineyard Merlot is a luscious wine of moderate alcohol that achieves a beautiful balance between ripeness and freshness. It has a garnet color with purple edges and an exciting nose of perfectly rip, fresh black cherries, violets, nutmeg and dark chocolate. It has a bright attack and a satiny mouth-feel. The fresh cherry fruit returns on the palate and the wine is full bodied without being cloying. the finish is vibrant with notes of dark chocolate and enough tannic grip to ensure good cellaring. This beautiful Merlot will continue to give drinking pleasure through 2023, with proper cellaring.
