Didn't take notes, but this bottle was more balanced than the previous bottle I tasted - that is, less overtly sweet. Similar flavours to the last bottle, quite tasty with more fruit than minerality (as with most 2009s). Will last for many years (B+/A-).

Had this with the 2008 kabinett last week. I liked the kabinett better, no doubt because of the racier acidity in the 2008 vintage. The spatlese is a 'classic' 2009, quite ripe, and indeed a little too much so for my tastes. But there's no doubting it is very tasty as well, with lots of apricots and some tropical notes too. Will the 2009s lose all this fruit and become more balanced in the future? I wonder... Solid wine for sure, just a little too ripe for my tastes (B+).

Popped and poured and drank half of the bottle on day one. Sweet citrus on the nose and palate. A little thin and flabby and lacking the spine and pitch of a more serious Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Perfectly gulpable on a hot summer day and a solid QPR at $20.

Epic Mosel Valley Wine Trip; 10/1/2011-10/4/2011 (Mosel Valley, Germany): what a find. fresh peach and apricot jam on the nose. the palate is surprisingly floral. my girlfriend says it's "like drinking gardenias," and i thought that was a great assessment. medium acid with lots of apricot flavors. a shot of minerality carries onto the finish. gorgeous now, but will benefit from some time in the bottle.

Shy on the nose with slight primary fruit notes. Sweet and wonderfully balanced. Fresh herbs, florals and some waffle. A lovely grape juice that will no doubt unfold into something more complex - and yet lovely.

Light notes of petrol. The nose and palate come up flat. Disjointed and tart.
