  • New year's Eve with a great group of people! Decanted for about 2 1/2 hours. Served with my smoked sausage cassoulet, needed something to please the crowd with enough guts for the spice. Turned out this did the trick. The extra decant time here made a huge difference from the last bottle. When we got to this wine at dinner it was really opened up and drinking beautifully.

Dark/inky color. Plush nose (especially on the decant). Consistent with prior notes - darker fruits, cherry and some earth/wood on the nose. Got more length on the finish with these bottles. Crowd loved it. Longer decant here made the difference. The wine is drinking well now and will probably continue to improve. last bottle form this batch, may look for some more

  • My first bottle of a batch purchased from the winery at release. Took about an hour to open up but proved to be decent wine. Darker fruits, cherry and some earth/wood on the nose. Medium length on the finish. My guess is it will evolve a bit more.

Nickel&Nickel keeps it interesting with the single vineyard offerings. Not all will hit it out of the park but are usually good enough to make it worth buying. My experience is they develop at 8+ years and add some complexity.

  • The Vogt vineyard cab had a lovely full cherry nose, with some wood chips and a bit of tar. the mid-palate was not a nuanced experience with dark berries, tar, and some full on tannins. Overall, though the wine lacked much complexity and the tongue began to lose interest. The finish was of average length, with good structure and fruit. Overall, I suppose we were slightly disappointed, but will try again in a year.

  • Deeply disappointed in this bottle. Opened it up with some wino friends of mine and tannis were quite weak and the wine simply did not stand up well at all to cheese, let alone steak for dinner. A bit past it's prime I assume. Ok wine for everyday drinker, but for $68 and high ratings it was not the wine that I had hoped for!

  • 02 California Cabs (Liner & Elsen, Portland OR): Deep cherry aroma. Plush stuff, but lacking just a bit in the mid-palate, at least for a $74 wine. Needs time, obviously.
