Good bright mature red color, beetroot on the nose with some cherries and fruits tending toward the red side of the spectrum, on the palate savory and lovely in its way- but lacking the freshness and continued intensity that the vintage retains to this day in the best examples, cinnamon notes with time- it gradually improved, but still I think overall this bottle was a little tired, such is the risk with all bottles when they reach this age. This bottle ***+, drink soon

Light but with muscular underpinnings. Black and red raspberry, some sweet spice although faded within 30 minutes. Brownish on the edges with a faint baking soda nose. Palate somewhat past peak. 93-

La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (New York, NY): Brief Paulee tasting note. Good earthy elements, some remaining red fruit and sweet baking spice. Elegant and restrained, without quite the density the best 1959s have retained. Moderate length.

Light sweetness to the palate. Enjoyable but missing the last level of desired depth, and one increment short on elegance. 93-94
