  • Super nose - complex and layered with lots of fruit, floral notes, woodsmoke, spices. On the palate very polished and elegant, great acidity, very intense with great depth and wonderful length. Very complete and still rather youthful. 96-98(+?)

  • Decanted 4-5 hours Fruit is so fresh and vibrant. The best wines are supremely balanced, as is this Guigal. Smooth and big at the same time. Dark fruit, currant, and a touch if strawberry. Delicious now but will also age a very long time.

  • Decanted 2hrs. Dark ruby purple with more than a hint of garnet at the core. Like the 2010, I didn't really get much on the nose. Some dark berry fruits, hint of crispy bacon and something vaguely floral, presumably from the viognier. On the palate this is very pure and concentrated but just leaves a mid weight impression in the mouth. It's all about finesse rather than power and concentration which is the case in the 2010. While there are plenty of sturdy tannins lurking just below the surface, this is far more open and approachable than the 2010 at the moment. Yes of course, this will get better with more age, especially the nose which seems a bit mute at the moment, but if you have a few bottles, certainly not a crime to open one now. Good, but no fireworks and certainly not as exciting as the 2010. For now.

Note. I do always have a bias towards La Turque vs the other La La's, not least because of that fabulous label which I could happily contemplate all evening as I am consuming the contents of the bottle

  • Popped and poured. Tight for a few minutes, then opened up quickly. Nose was phenomenal - blueberries and fruit forward, but also intense and not imbalanced.... just decadent and similar to the first time we tried it (@ Alinea in Residence Oct '20). On the palate, tons of dark red and black fruit, brown sugar/honey, earthy flavors, beautiful obscured tannin. Later glasses we poured (couple hours) were even better. This is a wine that should have a long life ahead of it. (99 nose, 97 palate).

  • Vin en équilibre parfait.
Nez sur les mures et le poivre.
En bouche, on ajoute la fougères et le gras de viande grillée. Finale élégante sur la confiture de myrtilles.
    Sublime!

  • Not quite at the level of its two stablemates, aromatically, its blend of smoke, spice, wet earth, herbs and dark red plums is attention-seeking. Powerful, full-bodied and deep, with good energy and lift, the wine leaves you with layers of fresh, spicy, peppery red fruits. It is important to note that this is the most backwards of the three La La's and is not nearly as much to enjoy in its youth.

  • Decanted for 10 hours.
    Fantastic nose
Still a bit closed with a lot of tannins left. I will give the next bottle at least 5 more years.

  • Sark in color. Initially effusive aromas toned down after 6 hours of air to a solid, enticing nose. Dark, sophisticared flavors. Big but not huge. An elegance I am not accustoned to in Cote Rotie. Beautiful with food (lamb in particular) but when tge food ran out the dark flavors take the fore and it loses a bit. A lovely wine. Now I understand why the LaLas are so revered. Wish I hadan older bottle to see how it ages.

  • 2 hour decant and this wine hums. At the beginning was closed and cold. Softens up after time and represents one of the better french syrahs. Good now, better in 5+years.

  • Young but very drinkable already - freshness is seductive

  • This is very dark and maybe its the vintage. I feel that the fruit is almost too "fruity" in this vintage. But still a VERY good wine

  • Tasted next to 2009 La Mouline and La Landonne. Equally dark in colour, slightly purple around the rim. Darker than La Mouline in terms of fruit profile, less expressive but also more elegant and complex. Notes of mocha, spices, smoke, earth, crushed stones. On the palate incredibly powerful, but despite the serious wall of tannins not austere or drying. Not quite as dark and brooding as the La Landonne. Very intense and persistent finish. I wouldn't start drinking before the mid 2020s, but this wine certainly has the hallmarks of a future legend. Amazing. 97-98(+)

  • Guigal La Las Masterclass with Brett Crittenden (Handford Wines, London): Dark red in colour. glossy.Spicy, herbal notes on the nose, bright fruit, green pepper. A touch Aussie Shiraz but not as "bad" as the La Mouline 2009. Rich fruit, light raisin feel and a lot of oaky dynamic. Too young to rate at this stage but definitely promising.

  • Massive promise. Still early.

  • Off the charts. Off the hook. Crushes the scale. Words cannot quite express how stunning this wine is! It perfectly blends intensity, concentration, depth, opulence, decadence and freshness. The nose, with its intoxicating perfume of licorice, black cherry liqueur, flowers, espresso, pepper, kirsch and earth is heaven. But it's the full bodied, voluptuous, liquid silk, mouth feel that lives for at least 60 seconds that seals the deal. Opened in the name of science by a friend, I'm not going to touch any of my few precious bottles for at least a decade.

  • Decanted and drank over 7 hours. The nose remained somewhat closed but overall reveal huge and ripe dark fruit, loads of wet stone, coffee and chocolate. The palate was more expressive and while quite primary was tasty. Long, dense and deep finish. Needs time and not as approachable as the La Mouline as expected.

  • Could be the best bottle of the year. Similar to the 98 but takes it to a higher level.
