Medium ruby; nose of spice and cherry. Dry, almost-medium acidity, low tannins, medium body. Nice complex red fruits in the mouth, well balanced sour and sweet, with smoky wooden background. (Others here have noted cola, and it's an interesting observation—I don't disagree.) Good length with a finish of cherry and oak.
Interesting to note that the vineyard claims to be carbon neutral and uses solar power.

Transparent ruby hued with a light body, the Rodney Strong Estate Vineyards Pinot Noir has a nose that features lightly charred oak, strawberry, rich earthy tones, and vanilla. Smooth and light on its feet, it has tastes of tart cherries, healthy minerality, and a little hint of cinnamon. Not the sweet kind, like in a cinnamon roll, but sharp zing of a hard cinnamon candy. The finish is short, with cherries, oak, and cinnamon. This ones seems best right out of the bottle. Not an over-performer, but a sold Pinot Noir in the below $20 price range.

Old World in style with lots of black fruit and earthy elements of forest floor, mulch, and a touch of barnyard. Feels heftier than its mid-body would suggest. Balanced, with a nice texture, fine acidity, and a refined sweetness. Very nice.

Generally I'm a fan of Rodney Strong, but this bottling truly disappointed. Weak in color, thin in body, one-dimensional sour cherry on the palate on night one. A return to the wine the next night confirmed its unbalanced state, proffering nothing but high alcohol. Reluctantly, I discarded the bottle rather than suffer through another evening. Avoid.

I had this wine almost a full day after it had been opened. We threw a party on the night of the 14th, and one of our guests had opened it. Unfortunately (or perhaps, fortunately) I didn't get to enjoy it on that day, but I pumped the air out and stored it overnight before having a glass with my lunch on the 15th. It was very obvious to me, at that point, that I was drinking a very tasty wine. Judging by some of the reviews I have read about this Pinot, it appears that aerating/decanting may certainly be key. Also, this wine may still have some aging to do; the reviews I've read seem to be getting better over time.
This wine was purple-red in color, but very light and clear. Overall, the body was light-to-medium in weight. The nose had some degree of complexity. It didn't have too much going on, but the aromas were certainly distinct and easily separable. I got dried cranberries, some woodsiness/autumn leaves, and a little bit of oak. On the palate, this wine was a little tart. I didn't taste much sugar, but I got a little more intense sweetness, almost bitterness, like vanilla, or vanilla-flavored dark chocolate. I also tasted a little creaminess here. The finish was short and peppery. Low in tannins, low in acidity.

This wine had a nice bright ruby color. The nose was a bit overpowering with regard to oak, hiding any other nuances and aromas. After breathing for awhile, there was noticeable strawberry and some vanilla with cinnamon, all indicative of strong oak. There was no finish, and unfortunately no character or depth. I think for this price point, ($18 or so) this wine is decent, but not memorable.

As much as you can expect for a sub $20 pinot. A pretty decent expression of the pinot grape with cherry and earthy notes coming through. Low tannins make this an easy drinker but this lacks complexity and the flavors come across somewhat weak on the palate.

We opened this for New Years Eve dinner with friends and decanted for a couple of hours. The wine poured very thin and was a very light burgundy color with a tinge of brown. the nose was excellent with some cherry, earthiness and smoke. Everyone who had a glass liked the wine-heard comments of pepper and dark fruit esp fig. There were extremely low tannins making the wine very easy to drink. The wine had low complexity but everything came together to make this an excellent wine.

Another bottle, this time we let it breathe for 45 minutes AND aerated AND decanted it and what a difference! Bing cherry and oak, with a great finish. Smooth, but not timid. This wine needs some aging, and if you can't do that, aerate and decant and you will be rewarded. It is still a little tight as of this writing, so decant! Aerate! Enjoy! Great with ham and/or lighter tapas.

Definitely needs some time to open up and reveal itself. Nose was reticent on first night but was not bad on night two, really. Smoke and a touch of diesel on the nose. Front of palate hits with an intense burst of sour cherry which seems promising, but after that it gets thin and monotone. Again here it improves with air, gaining depth and flesh and starting to work up to a decent finish, but it has a ways to go.

Very stereotypical CA pinot nose - raspberry, strawberry, some interesting burnt sugar smell, smoke and floral. Nice. On palate, very very clean but boring, with uneventful finish. Pleasant and nobody will hate this if you serve it, but slightly manufactured, light CA pinot all the way. Some nice cola on mid-palate.

This wine was popped and poured, then serially tasted (non-blinded) over the ensuing two hours. The robe is medium ruby and the nose shows moderately intense aromas of raspberry and spice. Light-to-medium-bodied on the palate, with low-to-medium acidity and light sweet tannins. The alcohol (listed as 13.5% and perhaps the tiniest and hardest to read of any wine bottle I have ever seen) is well-integrated and the palate is in line with the nose. The middle is solid and the medium-length finish is quite supple. Very good value (recognizing its simplicity of this particular bottling) for RRV Pinot lovers. I must comment that, with this label and the virtually illegible alcohol content labeling, the wine industry is virtually begging to have the government regulate them even further. C'mon guys, regulate yourselves or risk further regulation from the government! Drink now-1/15.

Doesn't seem as smokey as the previous bottle... but maybe that has more to do with what we ate them with than the wine itself. The first bottle was consumed with a mushroom dish and a truffle cheese... and Pinot complements anything mushroom so wonderfully.

Ruby in color with aromas of strawberry, black cherry, forest floor and fennel. Bright cherry and strawberry fruit finishing with fine tannins. A delicious Cali Pinot that I think will get more interesting with a couple more years of cellaring or decent for a couple hours now. An exceptional value for $20.

This is an affordable Pinot Noir if you prefer the bigger, California style of wine. Cherry cola aromas lead to a palate of cherry, cola, and black tea. Spicy and juicy finish.

First 2009 Pinot I have had and this was very nice. Some great strawberry and raspberry flavors with a decent finish.
