Osoyoos 2023; 6/25/2023-7/5/2023: Another clean/fresh 2009. I’ve had a few bottles of this and it drinks very well now right. Some citrus here but more orchard fruit compared to the 09 Roulot. Despite having a richer profile, the wine seems quite fresh and energetic with excellent acidity. 91-92

My 2nd bottle since 2016. Definitely showing more age, roundness and bulk. More rich fruit, silky nut, with hints of vanilla bean and curd. Style very slice and well however leaning towards a more aged and heavier style of Chardonnay.

good yellow-gold mature color, rich tropical nose, lemon custard, on the palate creamy and racy with a fine long persistent finish, lime tones, decadent and very fruit-driven showing none of that earthy coffee-ground like note that is particular to this vineyard, a large tasting so I could not give it the attention I did my last bottle but overall while this was still showing well it was a bit further along than I expected, still a fan but now less certain of the potential for decades of staying power, time will tell and I look forward to the journey.

From notes in 2018: "Golden straw color. Nose has floral, pear and slight roasted or hazelnut aroma. Flavors of honey, citrus, medium oak. Lemon pie and smokiness are the signature on the mid and back palate..."
Great texture and depth. Rich and slightly buttery, great secondary notes of citrus, marzipan (?). Full bodied white, medium finish.

Very nice wine. I feel like the critical reviews are about right on this one. The nose in particular was lovely and complex, but the palate let the side down a little perhaps. It still feels very young; there are just traces of development. Not oxidized (in a bad way) at all. Fairly fat and rich, but with an incisive, savory finish. Felt a little one-dimensional and shy, even with air and at a fairly warm temperature. Maybe just needs more time? Anyway, it is very nice, and if you have some, maybe open a bottle now to check in on it, but I susupect this will be better in 3-5 years.

Conventionally oxidised. No apple cider aromas. No brown colour. Seems like it would have always been in the rich side of the spectrum, abundant oak, late picked and caramelised fruit. Update Day 3. Cork replaced and put in the refrigerator. WTF! Paler in colour. The usual broader fruit profile of Beaune but so much fresher. Fat, sweet apple, quince and pears. Long citrus finish. So much extract, classic white wine for red wine drinkers thing, and needs food, pork not fish. Is this the same wine I opened three days ago? Be warned and decant!
Dinner with PSS Friends (Chez Walker - Princeton, NJ): Second wine of the evening. Medium chill, slow oxed for about 30 minutes, drank next to an 11 Aubert UV-SL Chardonnay. Been a few years since I have had this.
Consistent with prior notes:" Golden straw color. Nose has floral, pear and slight roasted or hazelnut aroma. Flavors of honey, citrus, medium oak. Lemon pie and smokiness are the signature on the mid and back palate..."
Still crisp and energetic wine, best guess is should drink at this level for another 5 years. Great stuff, aging gracefully

Bought approx 50 euros Le Clerc supermarket, Oct 2017, Flers, Orne, France. Tasted only lightly chilled, about 13c. Cork seal.
Surprisingly old-fashioned (lots of oak!) excellent complex and charming French Chardonnay.
C.....golden, at least advanced Straw. Showing white wine age (but not alarming)
N.....it leaps out of the bottle even before its in the glass! Wow. Intense wood, cream, peaches, buttery - all this reminds me of the 'big' chardonnays in New Zealand in the early 1980s, though obviously this is a teir or two higher in terms of class - toffee, caramel, quince, it's Big and Busy!
T.....Wow again. Old-fashioned (very French) but in a good way. Wood, power, chewy white tannins, chew on a wooden pencil end, buttery, maybe more acid would have been better, a nice roundness, plus a powerful core, not long to go now to maturity (2020?), drinking superbly right now, though. Stops just short of dry.
Tasted again next night....colder, around 8c....softer edges, but still a steely core of fruit, now feels more mature, chalky minerality still obvious, sheer class, still wonderful. One of best Chardonnay I've had.
VFM?.....not cheap at 50 euros, but defo buy again. Good VFM.

Pnp. Nose has butter, honey, yellow fruit and mineral. Palate is rich yet balanced with hint of oak. Drinking very well. This is a typical 09 white which the vintage ripeness is supported by high acidity. There is some prominent oak on the palate that hopefully could integrate better with more aging. 90-91

Tasted vis a vis the Bourgogne Blanc fra Domaine Leflave, this is rich, broader, more complex. Grand Vin. Butter galore, still a lively wine, better than the vintage. Drinking very well, will keep, not sure if it will improve. #Bruun&Hjejle

Agree with other notes. This wine is very impressive with an expressive and complex nose and palate. Elements of raw nut, some smoke, light oak, touches of butter and lemon curd. One of the better burgundies I have had in a while.

Enjoyed over about a 2 hour period with dinner in a social setting- so a detailed TN is not possible. First bottle out of the box, so no tasting note at release to make comparisons. Lovely light yellow color showing no signs of age, a large scale and assertive nose that remains very primary, citrus, ripe pears, white flowers, on the palate broad and deep- almost chewy- with full bodied flavors of pear and peach- leading into a truly remarkable finish of stunning length, strong mineral tones on the finish but that great depth of ripe fruit remains in play to the end, I often get a slight coffee ground or browned butter note with this wine- but that is not very prominent in this bottle (though it is there in some measure), even by the high standards of Drouhin Beaune Clos des Mouches Blanc this is a real standout, and despite all its grandeur it is remarkably balanced with an underlying firmess to the finish that keeps everything in check, this is drinking very nicely now- very much open for business- but I think with time it will become even more interesting, this wine has a good track record for going long distances- and of all the young vintages I have tried, I think this, along with the 93, is the best choice for saving a few bottles long term to see what happens.

Hands down the most impressive chardonnay I've ever had the pleasure of tasting (although to be fair, I do not have much experience drinking white burgundy). Profoundly aromatic wine--lots of lemon curd decorated with freshly cut flowers. Subtler notes of smoke and honey, as if one had begun to gently caramelize honey on an open fire. Slight butteriness is extremely well integrated and rounds out this wine to remind me of a lemon creme brulee.

Medium yellow plus yellow for 2009? ...if I didn't know this wine I would expect lots of oak or advanced development. But this is neither. It has pure pear fruit and anise. Shows much better as it warms. Lovely pear fruit, slight lees character on the palate. Supple and delicious today.

Ripe aromas showing peach, apple and some lemon curd. Ripe flavors as well, similar profile, but with sneaky structure and energy that only emerges at its finish. Very good now, but with the substance to improve over the next few years.

Rich, round and delicious. Lemon/apple on nose and palate. I agree with those who feel this will age well. Lovely now, but I think it has the structure and acidity to last. One of my favourite white burgundies.

Pre/Post Birthday Dinner (Ai Fiori - New York NY): No surprise, this wine just keeps getting better. Nicely floral start with peach, lemon peel and lemon custard aromas. Rich and ripe apple and peach flavors with plenty of forward, lush character to start, then more energy and reserve from the middle to finish. Good now, but this is a wine that has the bones to really shine a decade from now.

drank over two nights, this wine bested the 2006 Bouchard Meursault villages wine for us (tiff, eric, louise, ray and elizabeth in hawaii)… it was a little more acidic and a little more citrusy but it nonetheless had a certain sweetness on the palate that made it just that much more enjoyable to the crew… love it when the crowd picks the white burg with less oak treatment (as i always do)

great again but feels like this won't age well past a year or two out (my impression of '09 white burg is generally drink early anyway), ripe fruit, mostly citrus with a hint of green apple, sweet but with decent acidity to balance, a crowd pleasing bottle for sure, a dob of oak but not too much, on the rich side but nicely done

The wine was medium yellow-golden in colour and offered floral notes, ripe fruit, apricot, pineapple, ripe lemon, ripe green apple, chalk and a touch of vanilla on the nose. On the palate the wine showed ripe fruit, apricot, guava, pineapple, ripe lemon, ripe apple, firestone, chalk and a touch of vanilla, supplemented by mild spiciness, paired with medium-plus acidity and superb length. The medium- to full-bodied wine was ripe but not overripe and drank consistently well over three days. At their current stages this 2009 also drank much better than the very structured 2005 I had earlier this month.

Toasty with salted butter, citrus, green apple, green pear. broad, yet powerful. The sharp citrus flavors drowns the rest of the midpalate. The flavors are a bit marred by bitter polyphenols, and sulfur as well.

Consistent with prior notes - this is a consistently great white burg (IMO). Golden straw color. Nose has floral, pear and slight roasted or hazelnut aroma. Flavors of honey, citrus, medium oak. Lemon pie and smokiness are the signature on the mid and back palate. In a twist on the tasting, my French guests preferred the Aubert, my American guests preferred the Drouhin...go figure...
Both wines were great as a first course and had the stuffing and complexity to pair with peppers, olives and cheeses and not wash out

great again, nothing to speak of on the nose, rich mouthfeel, integrated oak and malo ferm to give it some smoothness, also some slight sweetness, but with all of that (sounds like cali chard) it had very good citrus and good acid… this will allow any cali chard drinking to cross over

not as good as the fantastic btls we've had recently, had with family on thxgiving eve and it was liked but my bro and sis in law remembered same wine from a month ago in Napa and all agreed these two bottles were slightly advanced, see my note from before for the basics but these btls matched but felt like they might have had some oxidation (i.e. add a bit of caramel and honey, take away a little of the nice acid), hoping my remaining 20 btls are like the earlier ones

had this several times when last in Vegas and all (including several self-id'd non-white drinkers) raved about it, this time at home with friends and it was a huge hit, not surprised as the nose was Ok but the palate was rich and sweet and luscious, some sweet lemon and some pear, luxurious mouthfeel, but thankfully enough acid to make nice and not overly fat, i think this is going to be great now and decline early given it's ripeness, quintessential crowd pleaser

Pale straw color. Lovely nose of meyer lemon. Elegant and light in weight with good acidity. Should evolve nicely for a few years (hope springs eternal) if no pre-mox problem. Not sure this will take on much gravitas, but it is a fine example of the Clos des Mouches that should only get better over the next 5 years.

Happy to try this again a year later. Mixed bag of changes - I found this bottle to have a lot more freshness and none of the slight flabbiness I found a year ago, but on the flipside the oak really was sticking out for me and especially as the wine warmed up it became a little distracting. A lot of rich material here, so I have a feeling in 5-10 years this could integrate nicely. Probaly 88-89 today with 91-92+ potential.

First Day of Autumn with Friends (Lake Forest IL): Lots of lush, fat peach aromas and flavors. Some summer flower hints also to start with a faint hint of spearmint. Ripe peach dominates the palate to start, with some lemon coming though at the very end. Moderate acidity or minerality coming through, this is most likely best now through 2018.

Alex's Beaune Offline at Medlar (The Medlar, London): Similar colour, but fresher, lighter, more mineral and floral nose initially. Far riper and a kittle less focused on the attack and middle though. Lacks the grapefruit element. A little riper, but in a way smoother than the 08 but less interesting. Still very decent but quite ripe and full. ***1/2

La Paulée de San Francisco 2012 (San Francisco, CA): Just across from Les Aigrots, and stunningly similar, this is my new obsession: Beaune blanc. This wine was like a fresh tarte tatin. Flowers, limestone minerality evocative of Chablis to me, honey, fresh malic fruit acid. Dips in the midpalate as did the Lafarge Aigrots, and finishes sweet and round in a manner that suggests it might need acid, but all the same: I could bathe in this for days.

There's nothing technically wrong with this pricey ($100) '09 white Burgundy, but nothing especially interesting either. Very viscous, open, and lemony. The texture is the best part but I couldn't tease out more than one dimension. Next time, I'll let someone else serve it to me.

An Evening with Laurent Drouhin (USQ): This is very rich (almost California like), but very clean and precise. Rich nose that shows a good dose of oak and a creamy texture. Came across as a tad too flabby - I think a little more acidity would have made this spectacular, but it is quite nice as is. Laurent thinks that this will age quite well. The average age of the vines is about 45 years. 89-92

France 2011 - Côte d'Or; 7/8/2011-7/13/2011 (Beaune): Tasted at the Domaine. This has a gorgeous nose. Complex aromas of citrus, orchard fruit with floral and herbaceous notes. On the palate it enters big, round and rich with flavours of dried lemon and nuts then finishes fresh with a good dose of lemon lingering for a solid 30 seconds. There are subtle hints of honey and oak coming through on the palate as well. This is a complex and interesting wine. Already drinking great now and will be fun to follow its development over 5-10 years. Excellent. 92+

Whew! What a nose. Far beyond the Meursault and Puligny AOC wines, with honey and cream and power and whew, what Chardonnay. The palate across the mid is lighter and more lilth, the finish is lengthier than those other two. This is a hell of a thing.

Joseph Drouhin Pre-sale at Block 7 Wine Co. (Houston, TX): This has tons of potential. Oaky spice and hazelnut nose.

This is in a great spot right now, drinking with great balance and finesse. Should hold for a while at this level
