Differences of opinion in my home. I smell and taste Christmas spices with light to medium mouthfeel and a shortish finish. My wife tastes bold mineral and earthy elements which fade away in the mid palate to a short finish. Interesting and complex? Yes! QPR? Not so much!

Heady, black berry, black cherry, dark spices, deep foresty notes; rich, big, certainly reflects the vintage with a near creamy mouthfeel; this needs a bit of time to open up, wait another 3 years min. and will go for a long time. W/Korean BBQ ribs at home w/ S&L

Fairly transparent red, some sign of age but limited brick. Delicate nose. Mid to light weight mouthfeel. Some bite followed by red fruit. Decided not to decant. Got better after some air and would recommend decanting 30-60 min before. Wine a bit between two phases—limited power and yet complexity of age not yet fully showing apparent. Hoping will get better with bit more age but no guarantee (may have peaked already). Paired nicely with cote de veau.

Some Fine Wines to Accompany the Browns' Playoff Game (Los Olivos, CA): My first of six. Evocative nose of ripe red fruit and oak-derived cinnamon. More oak notes and red berries on the palate, silky but perhaps lacking in richness and concentration. Perhaps that comes with more bottle age. We remarked on the juxtaposition of the winery being a flagship bearer for biodynamic practices yet fairly heavy-handed with new oak. I'm okay with that, for the record :)

Excellent depth, rich, blackberry fruited, soft, caressing, yet good juicy plump fruit, touch of spice, med+ finish. Good, if not too complex. Needs 5 more years. At 71 Above

At first a bit closed but with time opened up, in the nose revealing fruity notes of raspberry, very ripe strawberry, Christmas spices and some vanilla and a hint of cheese. Similar flavor spectrum on the palate, which evolved more and more to raspberry liquor, almost resembling Kir. Very nicely balanced, though, fine tannins and still fresh acidity.

This was nice, still quite brooding, rich Burg, dark color; accidentally brought to Italian restaurant but held up admirably. Dark berries, a little earthy perfume-spice note, moss, herbs, cherry. Try again in 2 years. Terroni

Drank with duck a l'orange that I made, and tried after going deep with the '12 Melville Estate, Santa Rita Hills. At first, this wine had a very unpleasant taste and nose that I described as soap and my wife described as band aids. The Melville was fruit forward of course and very serviceable, and I was really quite disappointed in the Burgundy. As the Burgundy opened up however, the unpleasant nose went away and the wine's true character was revealed. Supple tannins, strawberry, tart cherry, and spices. Showed even better the next day. Will wait another six years before I try my next bottle . . .

nose - similar to the Prieure though more closed mouth - tight knit, juicy berry, and I can see the elegance, though not giving up much at the moment. Solid structural tannins. -- After 24hrs getting a lovely taut raspberry. Retry in 5 years though the Burghound drinking window of 2023 may be more appropriate.

Domaine de la Vougeraie tasting (Watson's, Hong Kong): This is from 1.5 HA at the top of the clos + a little bit (.1 HA) from the clay at the bottom. It spends 18 months in 70% new oak - 6,226 bottles produced this year. A deeper ruby than the rest. Very good nose with intense spice, cherry and other red fruits. Medium acidity and tannin - not much oak evident.

Magnum format. This is beautiful and firing on all cylinders. Secondary flavors, very nice balance. Some spice. Medium body, good complexity.
