Popped @ a party so no formal notes. I thought I would just share that this wine is still going strong long Dietz found last year. kind of surprising...

I'm trying this at least 5 days after it was opened (my wife opened this while I was in Vietnam). It's all violets and black cherry with good tannins. This must have been stunning on opening. Substantial mouth-feel. Dain knew what he was doing. I'd drink it if you have it, as this is great now, with mature back notes.

This had the misfortune to be opened along with a Kosta Brown Amber Ridge at the same time. Much more burgundian in style, not as lush as the KB but to my taste much more true to Pinot. Actually quite dark, medium legs, nice notes of cherry and some minor funk. A very nice wine.

Beautiful aromatic nose, with black cherry, all-spice, cinnamon and brown sugar. The palate is dense and massive, full-bodied, with flavors of black cherry, cinnamon, camphor and Asian spices.

Love this vinyard and these wines always hold so nicely. Drinking very well now. No decant, pop/pour/enjoy. Not a shy wine so pair it with meat or a robust meal. Dark fruit and some chocolate notes. Distinctly on the "Rhonish" side. Perfect for a winter evening meal.

This bottle came across as rugged and harsh. Tried decanting, but it did not soften. Diametric from my previous bottle. Perhaps some VA coming to the fore? An aberration, I think, as most Dain pinots are quite friendly and smooth.

I had to check the label after opening. I thought I pulled a Dain syrah out of the cellar in error. This had dark fruits with chocolate and spice. The fruit was quite muted. Maybe the wine was going through a shut down period?? Somewhat disappointing.

Did not follow my own advise and let my last bottle sleep...but, it was worth it. Still a firm nose of ripe red berries and some black cherry...no funk this time around. Firm grip from beginning to end and a little more layering of fruit. This does have substance and as I noted before, is not a shy wine.

Trace of funk and elevated acidity do not get in the way of what is a very nice wine. Avoids the pitfalls of so many Pinots in that it is not tart or sour or indicative of a cola concoction. Fine effort and easy to drink. Versatile and interesting.

Dark rich red color, and some pinot funk on opening that blew off leaving a strong sense of ripe red berries, tart cherry, and some earthy elements and spice...rather firm. Firm entry and full mouth feel...lotsa fruit that is well framed, not shy, with a little heat on the end. This seems to be one that can easily be layed down for a while.

Decanted for about 1.5 hours. Still showed a little heat at first, but blew off quickly. Nose of black raspberry, black cherry, crushed rock and just a hint of EToH. Very plush mouthfeel....Dark fruit, loads of chocolate and some nice spice. I can see the "Rhonish" comment from other tasters. Very big pinot, but very good. Will probably benefit from a little more time in the bottle. Laube's on crack giving this an 83...Great wine!

Soft and ripe, with a nice mouthfeel. Unlike some of the notes below, I thought it was lacking a bit in tannin and structure. The finish was kind of flooded over by the fruit. Drink now.

Drank over two nights from a Riedel Vinum burgundy glass. Light purple red in color with a nose of cherry and other berry. Cherry and not much more on the palate, spice on the finish but nothing in the middle very short finish. To tannic, no way the fruit will out last the tannins. I am hopping this is an off bottle, have one left that I will revisit in a year or so. This is not typical of the wines I have had from Dain.

TWC does Californian Pinot (Dennis and Karin's): Opened too early in the name of science. A very feminine wine and once the Rhonish nose of dark fruits blows off, there is lots of lovely cherry and raspberry fruit on the nose. In the mouth there is plenty of tannic grip along with the lovely fruit and a slightly bitter finish. Once the effects of a good decant were felt the wine opened up to reveal more nuanced fruit and more of a powerful grip. Good now, this wine is still coming together. Bags of potential.

You wouldn’t know this was a Pinot from the color or nose at first. The color is inky purple/dark ruby and the nose is dominated by meaty aromatics. The flavors and full and rich, with a full mid-palate. There is a solid tannic grip and the wine is a little brutish right now. To me that is a good thing. There seems to be a high level of acidity in the wine that bodes well for aging, especially as the fruit is sourced from limestone heavy soils that have already produced long-lived and complex wines. The core of fruit is very backward and unevolved but all of the components are there. I predict this will be an outstanding wine in 2-3 years. You read it here first.

This is drinking quite nicely although you need to decant. Solid tannin structure which I enjoyed.

Easily the best Dain I've had so far.
Great balance, fruit, and mouthfeel.
I wish it wasn't my last bottle.

The note below by 'tskrueger' does a fine job of describing this wine. I gave it a 3 hour decant and enjoyed it over our thanksgiving meal.
