Slow oxed for 6-7 hours. No decant, right into my glass. extremely dense but a pretty nose of cherry cola syrup, pine nuts maybe figs?. Still a bit tight and acidic which initially hid the fruits. They emerge slowly to revael dark red fruits, tar, menthol and barnyard. Lisini is one of my favorites and I have many vintages sitting in my cellar, but not the '06 anata, which I bought at auction last years ago. The 2006 Lisini Brunello di Montalcino has only got better and better over the last year or two. It now needs almost no breathing time. It's a dark red with a mix of red and dark fruits on the palate, medium acidity and still quite firm tannins. Although ready to drink on first pulling the cork, it did evolve nicely over the next hour, becoming smooth and velvety. Two days later it was utterly glorious, Lisini Brunello di Montalcino at its best. Top class maker in a golden vintage. No hurry to drink up.

deep purple fruit with full mid palate; full mid palate with the structure to match; tastes as if a little cabernet was added; the 2006 vintage has been more structure than pleasure to me, but this is really nice.

The 2006 is a real beauty, and it's ready to go. It's a very dark red in the glass, and after 30-45 minutes you get aromas of roses mingled with bramble, a touch of spice and a hint of oak. There is medium-high acidity that melds with dark fruits, bitter cherry and lingering dark chocolate in the middle. Tannins are smooth but, with a swirl around the mouth, they come to the fore and then contrive to give a bitter tinge at the end. Finish is long. This 2006 Lisini BdM seems to be in its prime and has the bones to last. This is the first bottle out of a 6-pack. No need to rush to drink up, but certainly no need to wait. Will likely reach its 20th birthday in style. Lisini makes incredible ageworthy wines.

Very slow to open up, but once it got going it was spectacular. We decanted for 1 hour and then had to give it another hour before it decided to wake up. For this wine patience is definitely a virtue that will be rewarded.

So here we are again. By sheer coincidence a ‘pick a random bottle and create a meal that matches’ resulted in opening this bottle. Only 3 weeks after the previous one. And this is the last one left in the cellar. Now here is only a Ugolaia ‘06 left. Again: this is some great Brunello totally in line with the previous note.
When I come to think about it, Lisini definitely has found its way up again after the somewhat lesser wines produced in the vintages after ‘99. The ‘01 and ‘04 where not very impressive while the vintages as such where great. This ‘06 has some of the freshness of fruit, that I like so much about this vintage, combined with the black fruit, smoothness and density that Lisini usually delivers.
I’m now extremely curious how the Ugolaia is doing!
When it comes to pairing: the rather ridiculous ‘let’s make a Wagyu burger and top it with some truffle cheese to make the ultimate cheeseburger’ turned out to be a brilliant stroke of luck! Although I’m still embarrassed that we even gave it a try....

We popped and poured this bottle. It was quite expressive from the start. This bottle didn’t get enough time to evolve, it was such a great wine and it was gone before we realised it!
The color still shows vivid light ruby with some amber at the rim. Expressive aromas of blackcurrant, leather and some hints of berries and licorice. Medium-full bodied with chewy-smooth tannins, sweet fruit and nicely balanced acidity. The finish is very long and remains fresh throughout.
This wine will last for at least another 10 years but I don’t think it will improve a lot.

Lisini Brunello vertical tasting (Winicjatywa): very dark, slightly brownish colour. nose: quite light, flowery; some, distant sweet cherries; generally tart and bit "green". taste: balsamic, seroius; ripe tannins - large and lively; medium (+) acid; mineral.

The Rotating Dinners, II.4: 2006 Brunello (Chicago, IL): This was my favourite wine this evening. It had generous fruit on the nose and palate, but it was counterbalanced with a little bit of brine as well. The palate is simply gorgeous, with a fruit density that is bolstered by a clean earthiness. Powerful, elegant, and complex, this is something I ought to put in my own cellar.

Surprisingly young. Decanted an hour but at first alcohol very evident on nose. Toned down after time and brunello character started to show through and wine came into balance. Very good but needs time

Second Brunello of the evening. This is less gamey than La Poderina 2004, it has some very ripe and sweet cherry and wild strawberry fruit, the high alcohol makes this quite full-bodied, but it also has enough balancing acidity, some earthy notes too; round and supple on the palate with soft tannins and a long finish. As usual, a perfectly elegant Brunello by Lisini. Some found it had less character than the wines before. I guess tthat is a question of preferred style. I liked this a lot. Good now, but no signs of age. - 91 points

Not improved from my last bottle, not complex , anyway clearly Tuscany and Sangiovese but anyway not emotional. Just a correct Brunello but I was expecting more from the 2006 vintage

Medium garnet color. Red and dark fruits, dusty cherry, vanilla, light spices. If drinking now I would give this a 1 hour+ decant...06 was a good vintage for brunello, this should continue to improve.

Mixed red and black fruits with the alcohol showing on the finish. Nice core of roasted red fruits, cherry, raspberry and grilled tomato. Medium plus body and medium plus acidity, drinking in quite an open style now, this should improve over the next few years,

More accessible and supple than the '03 vintage drunk on same occasion, yet still a fairly young wine. This year has a high alcohol level (14,5%) which makes the wine a bit too sharp in the mouth. Otherwise, it's beginning to show early signs of ripeness w nicely smoothed tannins, cassis, smokiness. Nice, but I would prefer this to be 12-13% alcohol for maximum enjoyment. Will likely improve further w storage.

Montalcino visit June 2012; 6/8/2012-6/10/2012 (Montalcino): A typical Lisini Brunello with some excellent aging potential, but already quite nice to drink now: Ruby color. Full aromas of blackcurrant and cherry with some hints of licorice and leather. Full bodied on the palate with chewy smooth tannins, fresh acidity and balanced fruit. The finish is long and remains fresh throughout. Its youthful and accessible, but I think you will be rewarded with more complexity if you leave it in the cellar for 5 years or more. An excellent Brunello, quite young, yet extremely enjoyable even at this stage. Dark garnet. Expressive nose of red cherry, esspresso, florals, hints of leather and earthy minerality. Medium to full bodied, with ultra-generous, fresh and pure fruit, balancing acidity and a long aftertaste. At a sweet spot between modernity and tradition.

To me, a fine marriage of great typicity, good terroir expression... if you believe that Montalcino has terroir - I think that the good wines are clearly traditional Brunello, but I think you pick them apart based on producer style as much as terroir, unfortunately. That said, I love honest, good Brunello and this is admirably honest and true while being forward and delicious. An 04 Costanti drunk the next evening showed more purity and more acid but not necessarily more transparency or terroir. I think that in 10 years the Costanti will be the better wine, based upon what I tasted in these two bottles and what I've tasted of aged Lisini and Costanti, but for now, I actually prefer the Lisini by a smidgeon and I don't mind that at all, it's delicious.

Light nose that opened over time to dark fruit and chocolate with a bit of oaky floral component. Smooth entry growing to a black olive finish very tart finish. Tight tannins. Heavy acidity. This was very tight initially, lacking any real flavour and freshness. The way it opened up over time, however, speaks to a potential nice future.

Epson Imports Pre-Arrival 2007 Barolo and 2006/7 Brunellos (Liner & Elsen, Portland OR): Quite soft fruited aromas, with a pleasing hint of charcoal. Some earth and rocks as well, but this is primarily vibrant, deeply ripe cherry skins and seeds. Pleasing and soft on the palate, perhaps a bit too soft, as the flavors here are fairly juicy. Good, but not too complex. Spice, earth, rocks, and soil on the finish. Again the fruit here seems tending towards the over-ripe side, though there is some acid keeping it from going totally off the deep end. Even the tannins feel over ripe and soft. While I certainly enjoyed this, its definitely on the heavier, darker side of Brunello... I prefer them a bit more lithe. Not too typical for Lisini.
