I was completely blown away by this. Crazy as it sounds, it may be the best new world pinot noir I've ever had. I've had my share of Kosta Browne, having been on the list since the 2003 vintage and this is far more impressive than any Kosta Browne Kanzler or any KB for that matter. The nose is so explosive and on the palate so incredibly complex and balanced - so much so that I'm lost with the proper descriptors. I previously had said that the 1998 Kistler Cuvee Elizabeth was the greatest new world pinot ever but this is a different animal. While the Kistler evolved into Grand Cru burgundy, this KB completely stands on its own. Perhaps the most amazing feat is that everyone unanimously agreed it was wine of the night - from friends who were new to wine to sommeliers who tasted it without bias.

wow...doesn't get any better than this! opens to perfection after 20 mins...perfect integration...fruit forward profile of course...really smooth silky...blueberries, kiwi, strawberry, spice....perfect long finish.
Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of Birch, black raspberries and dark plums. Flavors of cranberries, raspberries and cherries. Tart acidity, resolved tannin, full bodied. Drink now.

Pretty much a pop and pour. Aromas of brown sugar, root beer, dried cherry, spice and cinnamon. Flavors of root beer, dried cherry, dried strawberry, earth and cinnamon. Ends with a dried cherry infused finish of 30-35 seconds that has a very pure note to it. This was drinking better than a thought for 10 years old. Not as good as in it's youth in my opinion but not near dead. Kanzler always was my favorite bottling but the glory days of Kosta Browne in this style is gone. All things must pass.

Interesting to pop this wine at this point in its life - I thought it showed quite well, toned down, complex. Light ruby color. Classic cherry, strawberry, with cola, cinnamon, mint and rhubarb notes. Full and suave with soft tannins and vibrant acidity (surprisingly so), which helps keep this lively. Big but mellowed down, the cherry and strawberry fruit is nuanced, not in-your-face, and I get these delicious notes of root beer, cola, tilled soil, leaves. I like it! The last KB I have in my collection. End of an era, but I wish I had more of this because it's lovely.

Ruby with a light purple hue. Huge nose of ripe strawberries and eucalyptus. Big and round palate with no hard edges but surprisingly good acidity on the finish. This is almost balanced. Works very well until the finish when it falls a bit short. Overall, a top notch KB. (92)

Ruby red in color. 14.7% ABV. Sublime nose of red fruits, cloves, baking spices and earth. Medium to full bodied with exquisite acidity. Exceptionally well balanced. Ripe, concentrated and supple. Black cherry, black raspberry and Asian Spices on the palate. The finish is long and plush. Just a beautiful bottle of Kosta Browne that has aged gloriously. Best over the next 1-2 years.

A killer pinot that did not disappoint! My last of my 2009s and it was great! Wonderful fruit purity as mentioned by previous CTs, with the wine showing raspberry, cherry, spice and some mineral.
Enjoyed at PortaBella in Carmel.

Way different from the 2008 Kanzler Sonoma Coast (non KB) we had the night before. This KB Kanzler is so much darker in color and richer on the palate..... but my wife and I liked the 08 Kanzler (Not from KB) better. We enjoy the KB's and have been on the list for years .... but now find better values in the market. The 08 Kanzler was an easy pick as a pinot tasted blind. The KB could be viewed as a blend. No problem ... would drink this anytime .... but not as good of a food pinot as others. As a solo drinker this is nice.

One reviewer commented on the purity of the fruit and that hits the nail on the head. Luscious wine, well made, one that kept you coming back for more. the wine kept giving more as the meal went on. Went well with scallops in garlic butter. The Kosta single vineyard wines really are a cut above their regular offerings, which are no slouch either. Raspberry and cherry is what I came away with, but a denser style on the palate. Recommended. It would have lasted another 3 years easily but I would hate to miss it now and risk the fruit receeding.

Kosta Browne tasting at the beach. Dark purple. This was the consensus wine of the tasting for the group and my WOTN. Huge gorgeous nose of spicy red and dark fruit, the expected cherry cola with layer after layer of beautifully balanced fruit. The finish just keeps on going. The first to be finished as well. The acidity is right on. Wonderful.
I shared this with friends on 3/4/16. It had a rich, ripe and fragrant bouquet of floral, baking spice, sassafras, cola, plum, blackberry, black cherry and mineral aromas. The palate was rich, ripe and concentrated with flavors that followed the nose.

Enjoyed with grilled pork tenderloin. Decanted for about an hour. Candied cherries on the nose. Ripe raspberry and cherry on the palate with a medium-long finish. I am a huge fan of the KB finish in a Pinot Noir. It did not disappoint with its signature velvety finish. I am a fan.

Probably the best a Kosta Browne I ever had. Opened and decanted thru a Vin-aire into a Mikasa goosed necked decanter, two hours before drinking. This beauty was not the usual power house, syrupy Kosta Browne. Rather it was elegant, a touch (but only a touch) Burgundian. A little chocolate, with a hint of dried fruit. Very complex. It kept changing in your mouth. The finish was sooooo long. I was afraid that it would overwhelm the grilled Coho salmon we had for dinner, but instead, it was the perfect partner. As I write this, I am so wishing that the bottle wasn't empty.

This wine continues to gain weight, concentration and richness. Massive dark berry fruit that is so seamlessly smooth to drink, you almost forget you are drinking an amazing Pinot Noir. At the same time there is good structure so it doesn't taste like grape juice. Wish I had more!

--- COLOR: Really translucent Ruby-Garnet, brilliant and deep NOTE: This is all ripe fruit-driven pleasure and I love it. Nose is mountain strawberries (the tiny ones), pomegranate, black raspberry and even black mulberry. Only the faintest trace of sandalwood. Mouth is a delightfully dense, sweet melange of the same fruits, as is the finish. The finish picks up this burnt marshmallow bitterness that is very appealing. Great PN and drinks well on its own.
2 hr decant, slightly chilled. Clear, deep ruby red/purple color. This SVD is normally more powerful than the appellation releases although this one was very similiar and slightly restrained. Typical big KB nose. Lots of cola, red/black fruit, maybe a touch of plum, sweetness dailed back. Long legs and a forever finish. Proper balance and just the right amount of tannin/acid. Has a long life yet but in a good drinking window. Nothing off. $78

A gift from a friend of the winery so we enjoyed it earlier than I plan to start drinking my bottles (late 2014 to 2015 is when I will start drinking mine).
No formal notes but this wine showed best after an hour of air or so to show great notes of berries with hints of spice and mineral. A really tasty wine as usual.
Decanted 2 hours. Ruby color with medium depth. Aromatic with crushed raspberry & hint of black cherry. Low to medium tannins. Flavors of raspberry liquor, with a touch of clove. Silky smooth, lingering finish. Outstanding!
This is as expected an very good PN but I can't help feeling that there is something missing. In like the fact that it is medium bodied and not heavy with fruit. I like the taste profile of dark blue and red fruits. So not sure what its missing but it is that "thing" that pulls it all together in the top burgundies and PNs.
Black raspberry and black cherry along with baking spices. Some Kosta Browne wines just smack you in the face with their intensity, but this was definitely dialed down a bit, and I really appreciated that. Very smooth and enjoyable.

Nose of fresh baked cinnamon rolls with hint of cardamon. Medium, soft tannins. Intensive, rich flavors of bing cherry, strawberry & red raspberry liquor. Silky smooth layers of fruit & spices. Lighter more Burgundian profile VS other KB bottlings. Superb!

Typically my favorite bottling from Kosta Browne. This was drinking really well right now. Incredibly pure expression of Pinot Noir and screaming California. Big, big wine.
Friends and I had this with a pot roast dinner on 3/17/13 (after the Quilceda release party). It had an intense, ripe and sumptuous bouquet of black cherry, blackberry pie, floral and baking spice aromas. The palate was dense, layered and ripe with flavors of slightly candied fruit (black cherry, blackberry and raspberry) and baking spice. WOW!

Amazingly rich, fruit forward and concentrated for a Pinot Noir. First sip after 30 minutes of decanting explodes in your mouth with dark berries. Wine has nice structure and body and is not your typical Pinot Noir. I love this wine and in general, love wines from Kosta Browne.

Decanted and consumed over the course of about an hour. A complex mix of dark berries, cola and spice. I almost thought I had pulled one of their Russian River Valley wines as this really had a lot of those characteristics. We enjoyed this a lot but of the different wines from KB in 09, I think this one needs the most bottle aging.
