Medium garnet, light and shiny color. Expressive nose of red cherry, berry, sweet spices. This is very fruity, not earthy in style. Elegant and light on the palate, great fruit and acidity, very soft tannins, a ballerina. Did really well on the table especially with the women (who preferred this to the Eglise Clinet 08).
Dark and inky purple with violet and crimson hues. Pleasant nose of fresh picked cremini mushrooms, green moss and a hint of burnt orange peel. Medium plus acidity with a powerful tannic backbone. Dark cherries, ripe blackberries and vibrant Granny Smith apples. Medium finish. Solid brunello with a long life ahead but drinkable now!
Quite an austere showing for this traditionally made Brunello. While the wine opened up noticeably over 3+ hours in the decanter, it was nevertheless quite tight and closed. Great structure, with the expected well calibrated levels of tannin and acidity, but at this point in its development, the wine isn't have quite enough fruit to flesh out its structure. I wouldn't touch this for another 10 years. And this should go without saying, but this wine absolutely requires food. Wine is not a cocktail. (Base neck ullage on this bottle, although the cork was in absolute perfect condition. Still, one doesn't expect base neck ullage on a wine that's only been in the bottle for 5 or 6 years.)
sheer delight - gorgeous precision ripeness to this wine, elegance, and purity. Long, too. Understated, as ever, this is a very clever wine, and how I wish I owned 10 cases. This is first growth quality amongst Brunello.
Tappo integro, lungo.
Still quite young and needs time to open up. Hints of mushrooms and dark fruit. Beautiful silky wine. No rating at this time as we didn't give it enough time to open up, but the potential is clearly showing through. Don't be afraid to leave this one alone for another three to five years.
Nose: Balsamic, leather, a hint of eucalyptus, a hint of something chemical, notes of tar, incredibly fresh, seductive perfumes, some red flowers, hints of roses and some salt stained, airy breeze. Taste: Full bodied but lacks concentration and some depth. The mid palate shows hints of chocolate, eucalyptus, ginger, small red berries and black cherries. Very seductive but not sweet and expresses even more feminine characteristics than expected. Length/endurance: Very long and well balanced.
Dark berry in a basket, pick one and it´s there. Dark chocolate, coffeebeans, creamy vanilla. Incredible nose that transforms back and forth during the night, so interesting and complex. The dark notes continoues in the taste with perfect balance and exactly the right amount of thickness. I guess this is just about how good a Brunello can be at this stage.
Profound example Gambelli's late work. Very light color, telltale bright red fruit swaddled in aromatics. After being opened about 4 hours, the wine became quite rich. Perfect balance and such concentration of fruit that it can be enjoyed now. This wine is destined for greatness
Decanted, tasted and then poured about 2 hours later, this wine required time to unfold and begin to display its best attributes. This begins reserved and unyielding on the bouquet. The medium-full bodied palate shows balance with an underlying firmness. This was tasted side by side with the '06 Salvioni BdM. In comparison, this wines shows red fruit and more acidity on the palate. Both will require patience to show their best. This wine will likely benefit from 3 or 4 years of additional bottle age.
Brunello 2006 Horisontal Tasting: Beautiful floral notes on the nose. Also filled with sewer and just a hint of vanilla and coffee. Sweet young cherry fruit on the palate in a very good balance. An impressive wine but when put next the Salvioni just falls a little short. Still a very good wine worth seeking out!
Powerfull nose of ripe red fruit, loads of nice iodium... in the mouth, pure sweet cherries, elegant and finesse, nice refreshing acidity, very light and ripe tannins, great wine, the Rayas of Brunello
