13.1% alc. Bottle was in very good condition. Mid shoulder. Top of the cork had healthy thin layer of mold showing healthy humidity during storage. Cork was pulled using a combination of cork screw and ah-so. Cork was completely soaked through and came out whole. I decided to pop and pour. Color: wine was burgundy color at its core with light brown, orange and pale rim. Aromas: smells wonderful at 55 years old. I was expecting heavy funk but it wasnt so. Initial smell had a mix of elegant red fruit with slight medicinal scent. Smell of sous bois could be detected ever so faintly in the background. Taste: no tannin feel, silky smooth wine. Red fruit that slowly came out to the front as time passed. Medium body. There was acid at the end of the taste. If blinded people would have thought 1990-2000 vintage just by the taste alone. Has few more years left until it drops off. I am happy to have had a very healthy bottle that showed well.

Fabulous bottle. One of the best Bordeaux I have ever had. Plenty of fruit, little tannin. Just what you would expect from a 53 year old wine that really should be a first growth. If you have one well cellared, drink it now.

Much better than the previous bottle, while the length was nothing to write home about, the soft, semi-opulent textures were a treat. The minor amounts of remaining fruit were holding on to some sweetness, and the nose, while on the earthy, tobacco side, was still holding interest. For a birthday or anniversary, this remains a reasonable, but fading choice,

Most akin to the first bottle we had. Fresh and youthful, with no sign of bricking. The structure and elegance of this wine was remarkable. The finish of camphor, vanilla, raspberries and currants went on and on. This was a beautiful bottle of wine that still had 10-15 years of a drinking window remaining. We all remarked at how unfortunate it was that most of this wine had likely been drunk 30 or 40 years too early.

Pale garnet, bordering on tawny like colour. Still showing some fruit, of the bruised, stewed variety. Really classic fine cigar box / tobacco flavour on the end. Clearly past its prime but with lots of tertiary character and still very enjoyable to drink.

All the 67's opened together and 30 minutes ahead and lasted for 3+ hrs.
Trotanoy (1 bottle; 93 pts) - best showing and liked by all, with most structure and complexity; earthy and a hint of mint Palmer (DQ) - oxidized L'Evangile (2 bottles; 90-91 pts) - lighter version the Trotanoy Gruaud Larose (1 magnum) (91 pts) - like it better than the L'Evangile as it was more complex Cheval Blanc (4 bottles) (91-94 pts) - likely bottle variations even though all is top shoulder; one of the 4 showing great complexity, while the other ones were lighter version Vieux Chateau Certan (3 magnums) (91-92 pts) - all is bottom neck; better than the L'Evangile and can be as good as the Cheval Blanc

50th Birthday Winefoolishness (Chicago, IL): Shows well past it's prime. The nose is quiet with a dusty dried plum profile. Palate is lighter and thin -- the flavors are classic Bordeaux.

50th Birthday Celebration Dinner with Wine (Hughes House - Chicago IL): In fun 1967 flight with mushroom soup, all opened 15-20 minutes before serving. Fully mature with tobacco, black cherry, cooked mushrooms, roasted meat. Very good aromas, good flavors, very good overall balance. While I preferred the Mouton aromas, this Cheval Blanc was better overall.

I bet it's been at least a decade since this wine was in its prime. More rustic and bright, than fresh and silky, and that's a nice way of putting it. There is not much left here. If you have a bottle, drink up.

Bought from reliable source, level approx. 2 cm under the cork. Cork came out in three parts ( not uncommon for bottles this age ).
Nose - very light, some hints of tobacco, cigars, undertone of wood Colour - not much red to be found, mainly brownish colours Flavour - needs some air first, but some liquorice and ink (?) Taste - slightly sour ( but mild ) and long aftertaste in the throat
Again, a bottle of 48 years old that has survived well in time. Still very much to enjoy for those whom like old wines ( like me )

Cheval Blanc tasting (30 different vintages) at the Rheingau Gourmet Festival 2014: rubin color; black and red currant; full body; however, the wine tasted somewhat unbalanced in the mouth.
Vintages 5th flight: 1964-1966-1967-1970-1971

A tribute to my dad Stewed plum on nose. Hint of treacle. Light and bricky in colour. Very watery rim. Sweet tobacco on palate. Boiled sweets. Soft and smooth. Light drinking. Touch of vanilla on aftertaste. Overall, holding up really well. Cork was tricky to get out but worth the effort.

Amazing wine! Decanted and served right away. A bit closed, but only for 5-10 min. This wine is very deep, complex, and with a very full, sweet and soft aftertast which lasted a loooong time. Tannins were present, but very balanced. RP rated this wine 77 points some years ago - even the best can be wrong. Truely fantastic and a bottle I'll probably remember forever!

Tinges of brown in the red. Nose of earth, dust, chalk and currant. First notes of stone, leather and cherry moving to chocolate and earth. Long finish. Did not decant. Evolved a bit during the meal. Nice structure. Not as extraordinary as the last bottle but still wonderful.

This wine is just past its peak. The nose is filled with scents of cherry tart and roses. The taste was still vibrant and balanced with some soft tannins and flavors of cherry cobbler and cassis. The finish was short to medium on cherries marinated in kirsch.

Mon's 55th (Schwa Restaurant, Chicago IL): Most of the fruit was gone but the remnents and characteristic's of a great bordeaux were still there. The wine did open up more in the glass and was a joy to drink

Drank at 55th bday party. Pretty amazing. 10XM’s note is excellent. I’d say this is on a plateau and isn’t getting any better though.

Turning orange. Candied artificial nose, maybe due to chaptalization. Light. Some tannin. Similar to the ‘70 today, also poor.

Amazingly still there. Lost back end structure, but still has fruit. Prune, black cherry, and raisin. Good wines can still be made in bad years.
