At first blush there's little going on here. I'm not getting anything of a nose or a palate. Perhaps when it has had a chance to breathe I will get a chance to revisit my notes. Day 2 and it has opened up with a plummy nose, and sour cherries and tobacco on the palate.

Dark purple. Grape jelly nose with green, woodsy accents. Foursquare and somewhat heavy bodied, the goopey fruit of overripeness and the acid of stemminess fight for attention, preventing much enjoyment. Very drying tannin. At seven years old, the wine's charm has dried up. Bottle #2 of two.

Very dark and oaky on the nose. Terribly out of balance on the palate - overbearing oak. Are there syrah characteristics under that oak? Couldn't really tell, even after being opened 2 hours. This was an unenjoyable drink and has been the only Tablas Creek red I've had that has disappointed and furthermore been less then very good. I would even say average to below average.

Northern Rhone style but then it should. Light pepper, nice acidity, complex with good tannins. Finish is longer than expected with a cocoa aftertaste.

Dale Cruse's Blind Tasting Party: Darkest red of the tasting. Not transparent. Vanilla, oak and minty on the nose. Bright fruit with raspberries and red cherries. Nicely acidic balancing the big bright fruit. VERY nice smooth tannins on the lengthy finish.

Lovely peppery Rhone-ish aroma with a great base of black fruit. Great structure right now--just enough chalky tannin to be substantive, while still letting dark fruit and spice flavors through unimpeded. Smacks of France.

Pretty good. Definitely spicy. I got the white pepper. Smoothed out ofter several minutes in the glass. Worth drinking. Probably better syrahs out there for the money

Like a beautiful Cornas.... not sure what I'm seeing that others don't. Very charming and ready to go.
