Fall 2008 Housekeeping - Round 1; 8/29/2008-8/31/2008 (Down's Lake): Very nice, but if I'm to be objective, this is probably sliding a bit, with the fruit starting to fight with the high alcohol level. Spicy and flavorful on the palate. That, along with the high alcohol, makes this seem like a zinfandel stripped of its color. My favorite of the two whites. G. hated it.

Maturing quickly, this is now more honeyed, with ripe peaches, mineral and lanolin. Tasting a bit heavy, but still has sufficient acid to keep it in check.

Yes, a wee bit hot. But this is a nice tasting wine. I really enjoyed it. I wish I had more. The alchohol doesn't come in until after the wonderful taste--and it is a delicious California wine.

(Tasted blind) Some sweetness, spicy apple, nuttiness on the palate. Seems a touch oxidized. Sorta like a sexy California version of a not quite dry sherry.

Nice tropical fruits, rich palate, and balanced acidity. The only thing disliked about this bottle is the very hot finish. At 15.3%, it ends up dominating the palate, especially when it starts to warm up. I really wish the alcohol didn't show as much as it did.

don't be put off by the alcohol in this wine, because it's absolutely a sensational domestic white. i believe i have reported on this wine before, and i can't recommend it enough. why you would drink an over oaked chard compared to this is beyond me. the wine has fantastic acidity and balance. i know it's almost absurd, but it tastes kind of like a heineken (sic?) beer, but with more complexity and a satisfying, rich finish. doesn't make sense, but that comparison really stays with me. anyway, i seriously like this wine.

Apple and pear on the nose. Butterscotch and honey flavor. Long tart finish. Don't get any hotness from the alcohol at all. Pleasant

Consistently good, excellent chilled as an afternoon or early evening beverage. Quite sweet, lots of grape and apple flavors and a touch of vanilla

Tasted at the winery - no notes, but I always love their Grenache Blanc - such an interesting grape. I enjoyed this quite a bit.
