Similar notes but no heat and integrated. This wine was phenominal and truly an excellent experience. Last bottle of this vintage for me sadl! Great dark red and black fruit profile. Wish I had purchased more

This still requires a 3 plus hour decant. Fruit forward and moderately polished with a touch of heat on the backend. This is in its prime and will drink well for a decade. Revisit magnum in 2029.
Though these have a lot of variability Perhaps where they source the fruit. Rutherford mountain? Can we be so sure? There are no rules in CA. Nonetheless, this was juicy and good.

It's a nice cab, but overpriced. I have tasted over 20 of these. Core issue is the cheap cork they used. It's a shame since the bottle is costly. From the 20 I have tried this one is solid with no flaws. Several have had flaws. I think it from importing grapes from who knows where. Thus a lot a variability in the wine.
Excellent Cab - great structure and mouthfeel, with depth and really solid dark chocolate, tobacco and earth notes. In an excellent drinking window. Day 2 held up very well.

The best wine I've had all year! Huge mouth-filling flavors amd aromas in the very dark liquid; Cassis, blackberry, of black fruit, almonds, pencil shavings. Round and soft on the palate in spite of a nearly 16% abv! Opulent dark cherry, jam, and caramel lead to a velvety finish. There's a long life ahead for this wine and I wish I had a case. Decanted, very little sediment, served at about 60F with Prime Rib at home.

Great example of big Napa Cab. Lots of years left. Nose is a bit muted but black fruit and a bit of tobacco. Mouth feel is typical Hall - velvet, smooth, not hot at all. More black fruit, touch of vanilla and honey.

A beautifulcan from Napa. Floral nose with dark fruit and flavors of bright cassis and black and red raspberry. The finish was long with a nice long caramel chocolate finish. Fantastic wine.

Yes, as other CT's have indicated, this is extremely fruit forward, and some may say (and have said) it is a "fruit bomb", but I found this to be extremely enjoyable. Wonderful mid-palate of cherries and rich red and dark fruits, but with plenty of acidity and complexity. Full bodied and long finish. I could have sipped and savored this all night and skipped dinner. Properly cellared, this wine has years to go before it fades.

Dark and inky in the glass with deep aromas of dark fruit and oak, like walking into a cabin in the forest.
On the palate the wine is luxurious, seductive, and sexy with a plush mouthfeel. Extracted dark fruit with sweet notes of strawberry and blueberry coming through. Velvety tannins and a striking acidity. Long finish.
Hedonistic and delicious. If you have this 2009 in your cellar, there’s no rush to drink it. There’s a lot of life left in it.

Couple of hours of decant time allowed this to open up in the glass and exhibit its classic Cali cab fruit, with dark cherry, chocolate, a hint of pepper and pleasant earthiness to come though. Big bodied with a heavy mouthfeel and a long finish, you can find cabs this good for better QPR but this is an enjoyable quaff for sure.

A good bottle of Kathryn. Great red fruit with a beautiful lingering finish of spice on the palate. Just a little heat on the finish likely from the acid but it was still great and otherwise in balance. Had with four other wines at Ruth Chris. This finished third of the group. The 07 Kathryn had on the same night for the group was outstanding and more complex. Highly recommended. I still have one more that I will hold another year or two.

Black cherry licorice and cassis on the nose. Very bright ripe fruit in the mouth with a nice fleshy feel to it. Sweet tannins blend nicely on the finish. Touch of heat brings this down a notch.

One of in a flight of three outstanding, exquisite Napa Cabernets enjoyed at Osso Steakhouse on Knob Hill in San Francisco. The steaks were outstanding and wines absolutely exquisite. The 2009 vintage has been hit and miss for many Napa Cabs but I must say, this wine was a real Beauty out of the bottle. Dark purple fruit, black berries cassis and smooth tannins at this point. Violet flowers, silky, polished mocha and chocolate notes and a bit of soft subtle Oak. Surprisingly nice, very nice, actually much better than I expected. 95 points. I would have never guessed that this one was a blend of 14% Merlot 4% Petit Verdot and 2% malbec. Clearly a winning combination. You could tell that this wine was evolving, revealing more facets and unwinding as we all enjoyed it, but last night, we didn't give it a chance as it disappeared rather quickly to rave reviews by all.
2 hour decant Eye: Dark purple opaque core to a redish-pinkish translucent rim Nose: Dark fruits, plum, earth and oak Palate: Black berry, cassis, dark chocolate, earth tobacco and light vanilla. With a med acidity with firm tannins and med+ finish.
Overall this was great and was fantastic with Rib-eye steaks and roasted potatoes and porchetta. With the pairing the tannins were nonexistent, silky smooth. Enjoy!

Still very young. If you like drinking them younger, it's showing well, lots of fruit, nice grip and not overly hot as some Napa wines can be. Very long finish. This one will improve quite a bit over time if you have the patience.

Different than the last bottle. This one was a bit more sugary and inky with a touch of tannins on the finish. I still think this wine in time will be like the 2005s. Would suggest holding these longer in the cellar or decanting at least two hours before drinking.

Decanted about 30 minutes, then tasted over the next 24 hours. Still very tight, unlike the 2012 KH which is very open. After 24, this really opened up. Not as fruit forward as the 2012, leaning towards the aromatic side. Could use more cellar time. Could easily score higher with adequate cellar time.

Very delicious with nicely "etched" notes on the finish and in the mouth. Decanted and consumed almost immediately. There were not solids in this bottle. That said it tasted really fine from the beginning first sipt to the last drop. It evolved and slowly opened so that at the end there was no hint of the very slight harshness that showed itself early one. Tastes of rich, somewhat sweet red fruits with a lovely bouquet of red fruits and spices. It still seems young.

This wine gets better every time I have it. I initially didn't think much of the 09 KHall (relative to the others in the portfolio), but what a beautiful wine it has become! Super saturated squid ink, blackberry pie, graphite, hickory smoke, bramble fruit, etc. Easily my favorite wine from the '09 vintage.

Had this wine with a nice steak dinner. Decanted for a little over an hour. It was best early with great integration of fruit, spice and oak but as the night wore on it seemed to fade rather than get better. Considering the price of this wine, it wasn't as good as I would have liked and it should have been.

Opened the bottle and let it breathe a few hours. First nose was alcohol. Wine was disjointed. The fruit had faded and it was not the sugary & fruity taste of other bottles. It was disjointed. Perhaps it's shut down now or a bad bottle.
Restaurant list at retail price. I could not resist.
Nose: Cherry, Blackberry, Baking Spice, Red Licorice and Red Hots. Palate: Velvet soft on the palate with Black Cherry, Blackberry, Cola and a nice pie spice note. Finish: Complex with a bit of heat at the back end.
15.8% on the label, but it would not shock me if this is well over 16%. Tasty if a bit confected.

black cherry / blackberry nose and palate. Medium body. This wine is very thin and mellow for a cabernet. Finish is a little short. It a good bottle of wine but at the 90$ price this sells for you can buy a much better bottle for half the price.

Very deeply colored, this wine initially showed an unusually aggressive nose of black-olive tapenade, roasted blackberries, leather. With air the nose softened and became more approachable and eventually, after an hour or so, was much more balanced and fruit driven. The wine itself is flavorful and rich without being overpowering, but still falls in the category of ripe, slightly hot California cabs. Finish is a bit short. Quite good but not great.

Decadence in a bottle. Smooth and well-composed with taste, feel and bouquet all working together to make something special. This wine is alive and deep, with ripe berries immediately greeting the palate without being overwhelming. Neither understated nor attention-seeking, this wine is best described as "elegant".
Masterfully blended in a fairly tough year for Napa, the talent of the winemaker is clear. And with the maturity shown at such a young age, I'm curious what this young prodigy will do in a few years...At the $90-$100 range, this is not your everyday wine, but the justification for this premium can be tasted on the first sip (just be sure to decant for 1-2 hours).

Fabulous. Dark ruby. Rich Cabernet nose is textbook with concentrated berry aromas. Smells like Rutherford cab such as George's de le Tour from Beaulieu. Lovely, smooth, sleek and rich in the mouth. Great grip and richness. No hard edges, mocha-like, seamless in its intensity and depth. Really lively finish. This is aces. Only some chewy tannins give away its youth, and portend graceful aging potential. Mouthcoating in the best possible way. 4-13-18-9: 94/100

Second bottle of this I have had and it was a different experience. The wine was very sugary and smooth. It needs to open up for a few hours for sure if you plan on drinking it soon. I would say it needs to age an other 1-2 years if you can hold out that long and if you can it has potential for a 93-95.

All I can say is wow! We drank this very early being a 2009. The wine was amazing. It was big, fruity and full of flavors. It had the smoothness of an eight year cabernet. This is one of the top bottles I have ever tasted. I wish I could get more of it.

- Purple color with medium forming legs. It's balanced with a medium/full body. Round texture with a long finish - 2 hour decant.

2 Hour Decant. Dark, complex, coffee tones, long finish… just terrific on all fronts. Will get better in a couple of years, but good to go with a long decant. WOTN for sure!!!

An elegant and complex wine. Deep, dark berry fruit with hints of mint and cocoa. The finish sails on and on. Very smooth and polished.

I love Hall wines so my reviews are a little bias. The 09 is fantastic and very easy to drink. Solid wine.

black cherry / blackberry nose and palate.

Still young, too young to give a higher score. Should have waited 2 years to be fair.

Simply delicious! very nice fruit with dark mountain berries, plum and some currant, nice notes of vanilla with perfect tannic structure. Drinking really nice for such a young wine.

Two hour decant and this was outstanding. Deep dark fruit in layers with earth/"dust", spice, and cocoa notes. great texture and velvety tannins. I'm sure it'll last 10 years, but my bottles won't!

4th one of these and they are just exceptional. Still a bit too young of course but after 2-3 hours of air was singing beautifully.

Fabulous.

Rich, spice and fruit with like last year tons of oak. Fruit is more lush this year keeping it in check, but it's hard for this style to be profound.

All I can say is wow! We drank this very early being a 2009. The wine was amazing. It was big, fruity and full of flavors. It had the smoothness of an eight year cabernet. This is one of the top bottles I have ever tasted. I wish I could get more of it.

From barrel sample, not sure I like this as much as the 06 or 07. Still very good and primary with savory notes. 08 and 09 had some similarities, but fell short of some past vintages for me at this point.
