I liked it better on P&P than after a double decant. Its density seemed to increase with air, at the expense of subtlety. Still, a pleasure with steaks on 7/4. Blackberry, black currant, a little wet leather, and a huge dollop of pipe tobacco.

Cork in great shape. Maybe half inch of ingress. This bottle showed a mixed of powerful fruit and some oxidation hanging around the outside. Some ash like notes making me think of brett. Though I wouldn't say it was infected. Good depth here. Normally I would say this has a ways to go but the notes of oxidation were quite distinct. And that ash like thing never really faded. Probably just a funky bottle. It was still good but also distracted.

consistent with notes of 2/27/2014 - I'm still not sure I am reviewing the correct wine, Ridge has changed the naming so often. The label reads, "Ridge Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet 1995"and is a blend of 75% Cab, 11% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot.

WOTN on a night when everything tasted was supposedly on the edge or past its prime. Bold currant and plum, good pepper and leather balance. Certainly not young, but would have never guessed its age.

Light garnet color. Strong musty blackberries, black pepper, and spice on the nose initially that fades in intensity after a couple of hours in the decanter. Red fruits dominate with both strawberries and raspberries in evidence. The finish is dominated by both and lasts well over a minute. The mouth-feel is a bit thin. This wine evolved in a very interesting manner over the course of its 2-hour decanting. At one point it reminded me a great deal of a 1998 Chateau de la Gardine, a Chateauneuf du Pape that I like very much, but this stage only lasted a half-hour or so. The tannins started to take hold towards the end.

With Deb and Vietnamese food. I don't drink much Ridge wines any more because I find them to be excessively oaky. The nose of this wine suggested it was once also too oaky, but the oak is now reduced at age thirteen, manifesting itself in some cedar on the nose and whiffs of wood dust, somewhat caramel-y sweet, and strong but not offensively so. On the palate, the fruit is really in retreat. The tannins are drying and because the fruit is waning, the palate here comes across as too dry and lacking in richness. Drink these now. C+/B-

Rubinrød, med smale tårer. Lær, kirsebær, svarte bær, pepper, mineraler, litt oliven, stilk, kjøtt og røyk. Jeg tippet Syrah. Petit Verdot 15 %, 85 % cab. Strukturert og pen. Lang. 93

Deep ruby. Savory, perfectly balanced. Cassis, touch of leather. Lively, and not showing any signs of being tired. Highly enjoyable.
