The 50 Big Bash (Harry's NYC): Almost messed this glass up with another wine and so I had the completely wrong notes. This was from a magnum and just incredibly fresh and bright and young. Drinking well now but many years to go and expect those years will add a bit more interest.

This was the second time I had it from magnum and last one was a big disappointment. This one however - a big positive surprise. Very elegant with nice subtle nose and good balance. This one will develop for many years.

From a beautiful magnum. Dark honey in color, glossy. Rich & round, but also vibrant youthful. Light honey, light apple, yeasty and with a nutty finish. Layered wine and quite complex. The only negative is that sometimes it felt a bit too rich, almost monotonous rich but that's just a tiny bit of criticism for an otherwise great wine. 93-94

As wonderful as during previous tastings. The -99 RD is a truly magnificent wine with absolutely everything in its right place and nothing missing. The first impression exhibits deep profound oysters, sea and minerals. Then multiple layers of complexity slowly emerge as the time goes by. There is citrus zest, cinnamon, sweet brioche, confit de canard and lovely medium toast. This is an amazing nose... The palate is just as good with balance and superb integration as keywords. Everything is harmonious and the whole mouth coating experience is like dark velvet and luxurious silk. This wine is certainly elegant but it is also classy and powerful. With a length on the finish lasting some 55+ seconds this wine has gone from clarity to clarity. (Served from magnum)

A true wow experience and a simply an astonishing bottle of wine! This 1991 R.D. drinks superbly and all the classy Bollinger tones are found at first sniff. This certainly is bottled powerful elegance. At first the nose reveals dark brown toast, brioche, subtle honey a whiff of orange curd and classy almonds. After some aeration there are abundant minerals, shellfish and fresh oysters. This wine does have it all, but it is extremely well balanced with a creamy texture. The mousse is fine tuned and adds to the brilliant balance, acidity and fruit. This wine represents Bollinger when at its best. It is just amazing. The length on the finish lasts some 55+ seconds. A wonderful wine! Served from magnum.

Wow, wow, wow! This is a -99, considered a 'less good' vintage, but this RD delivers a close to mind boggling drinking experience tonight. It drinks superbly right now and all the classy Bollinger tones are expressed. This is powerful elegance in a bottle. The first sniff reveals nutmeg, dark toast, sweet brioche, acacia honey and a whiff of orange curd. A second layer emerges after some aeration with minerals, shellfish and fresh seaweed. This wine has it all, but there is nothing over the top. It is wonderfully balanced, with a creamy texture making the taster long for another sip... The mousse is fine tuned and adds to the perfect balance, acidity and fruit. With a length on the finish lasting some 55 seconds, there is no doubt the 1999 RD represents master winemaking at its best. A lovely lovely wine! Served from magnum. (score is without doubt 95+, perhaps 96 too...)

More acidic than the 2002, this Champagne offers plenty of pears and golden apples that go along with the typical autolytic breadcrumbs and yeast. Nice fresh fruit, and lasting on the palate. Even some apricots in there... a beautiful Champagne.

Year 2 - Super Tasting 1 of 6 - Dave does Barolo (Dave's House - Kitchener, ON): Tasted out of magnum. Pours a golden honey yellow. Nose is initially a touch muted at fridge temperature. Palate on the other hand is very rich, round, and showing the complexity to come. Leaning to the fresher side by bollinger standards, but still solidly in the bollinger house style. Notes of seabreeze, brown sugar, green apple, hints of caramel and brown spices. Palate has such excellent balance. Dosage, creaminess, acid are all in an excellent spot. Notes of fresh ginger, and mineral poke through as it is exposed to air. Not a knockout at this point, and I think it could improve with time.

Year 2; Tasting 1 of 5; Dave does Barolo (1955-1999) (Dave's House): From magnum, popped and poured, then followed over the course of the evening. In the glass, light gold in colour with a fine bead. On the nose, a touch reticent at first, but eventually urfurls, giving way to notes of baked apple, grated ginger, crushed rock, lime zest, baking spice, bread dough, caramel and a touch of coffee. On the palate, quite rich and round, with a somewhat viscous mouthfeel and persistent mouse. Acidity at first is a little more disguised but eventually becomes more prominent, leaning to a medium level. The finish is long, showing good complexity, with tastes of baked appled, walnut skin, mineral, citrus zest and ginger. Showing fairly young at this juncture, and I think there is a bit of upside with a little rest in the cellar.

Year 2 - Super Tasting 1 of 5 - David does Barolo (Kitchener, Ontario): From Magnum Nose of ginger, mineral, dough, lemon cream honey and spice The palate is powerful with clove, ginger, mineral, biscuit, spice, and white flowers. This is really rich with great mousse. The finish is really long and complex. I'd wait on any further bottles as this seemed really young.

Tasted from Magnum. Lovely yellowish color. Expressive and fruity on the nose, complimented by a developing autolytic undertone. This has a long way still to go. It is a light wine with dark flavour, where coffee, toffee and some red fruits still are at the front. It is winderful, but did not open up to the extend I had hoped. Still there is much more in this wine for the patient.

From a magnum that had been opened the previous day, this is quite open from the get-go. Very fresh fruit aromas, a bit of earthy funk too. Balanced on the palate, showing more linear character than your usual Bollinger. Elegant and stylish. In overall impression more high-pitched and focused than the GA. Maybe not an RD for ages, but will offer loads of enjoyment for short to medium term drinking.

A magnum. Strawberries and lime zest on the nose with floral notes, hint of wool, chestnuts, mushroomy earth and coffee. Dry medium to full bodied palate with creamy fruit and surprisingly rich fruit. Strawberries, peach, prominent oak presence and hazelnutty toast notes. Long. Surprisingly rich and round as far as RDs are concerned. Drinking well. A highly positive showing.
