Totally different bottle from last one - in a good way. Needs about 30-45 minutes decant, then opens to lovely if understated red berry nose and balanced soft earth and tannin notes. Perhaps I let the prior bottle sit in decant too long, as this seems to start down hill significantly toward the 2 hour mark. It’s nice but won’t be long lived. Drink up.

My third and final bottle, and much the best as it has now reached maturity, although it should keep well for 5 to 10 years. It has a dark colour and rich, meaty damson and blackcurrant fruit. Excellent, and quite elegant for a NSG.

2hrs decant not enough. There may be something to this but very tight and tannic. Toward the end finally gave off some red berry notes but still fairly strangled in bramble Next time will give it 3-4 hours. We’ll see.

My first bottle of this, drunk about 4 years ago, I did not like: it was probably much too young. This is a distinct improvement. It has a dark colour; the green tinge of youth has gone and the palate is firm, with dark cherry and blackberry fruit and good length. Now ready, but will probably still improve over the next few years.

This is very unlike the other de Montilles I've had from this vintage. The Beaune Sizies and Volnay Brouillardes are quite lovely wines and are ready although a few more years would do no harm. This NStG is extremely stalky and needs much more time if it's to resolve (if ever). The people at the table were divided, the majority not liking it much. The underlying flavour was good though. I have a couple more, and I won't touch it for five years.

This was really quite good, probably exceeded expectations; the nose is beautiful with ripe red berry fruit, some sauvage and sanguine notes that seem like classic Nuits and just a bit of floral hints. Still fairly primary, though there are some earthy/forest floor notes just starting to develop. The palate is excellent with a lovely balance of energy and depth, super suave tannins, and a nice lingering finish. Delicious.

Sweet red fruit, some spices, oak. Well made but tasted a little thin and had some green/unripe tannic aftertaste. I don't believe this wine will still improve. Terrible value at €60.

Berry fruit, black tea, green stems, and vanilla aromas on the nose. Most of the action is in the midpalate, with pleasant flavors of somewhat ripe red berries and plum, balanced by light, chewy tannins. Green peppercorn spice in the finish that stays on the sweeter side. Pleasant drinking wine, though not very complex.

This has a fairly deep colour, a perfumed nose and a light to medium weight palate with strawberry essence, some fine tannin which became more noticeable with time, and a slightly bitter/unclean finish. In fact, the somewhat unpleasant taste on the finish reminded me of a 2004 burgundy, so 86 might be generous. Needs to be left for a few years in the hope that the flavours improve and the tannin dissipates.

a sweet, sappy nose of (mostly red pinot fruit (showing real purity) mixed with anise, plum and a touch of dusty oak and peppercorn spices. Precise and linear on the palate but with great generosity of fruit with a touch of well integrated tannin in the background. As ample and powerful as this is, this is an '09 that remains light on its feet. More spice driven and Vosne-like. Very well crafted and complete

Medium red, slightly rusty edge; fresh red fruit in the nose with some sharpness; nice fresh fruity taste with some bite, a bit on the thin side, elegant, some peppery flavours; nice

Smells like squished up strawberries with some floral perfume. It has a L'Arlotesqueness about it as it is Nuits at the fragrance and elegant end of the spectrum. It is plush and creamy in the mouth and has a gentle snap of tart berries and slightly bitter hint of juniper to the finish.

Rich red berry aromas with some warm spice and rose petal. Complex and evolving flavors that start with rich red berry compote, transitioning to a lighter, wood-driven texture and finishing with oaky spice. Very enticing, but needs considerable time to integrate and mature.

not as generous on the nose as the Saints Juliens - reveals some Brett, brioche, truffles. more focused on the palate delivering good grip and clean purity of red berry fruit.

In a great place with plenty of youthful red fruit. Not showing real signs of age but no hard edges and a joy to drink.
