Surprisingly dark garnet color. Decant 3h. Impressive nos of sour cherry, tea, herbs and spices and some iron. On the palate a bit prominent acidity but all in all very good wine. I fear this could be dominated by the acidity in a few years.

Excellent sangiovese; this actually seemed denser and more compacted than when I last tried it! The nose is just pure sangiovese; lots of red berry fruits, fennel, tobacco, mint, floral notes, leather, forest floor, and a minerality that actually reminds me of Chambolle; the palate has more robust tannins than I recall and incredibly vibrant acidity; this absolutely needs food as otherwise I could see it coming across as a bit harsh, but with a nice bolognese this was fabulous. I think this should drink well for another 5 years easily based on this bottle and potentially longer

This wine is in a nice place. Elegant, lifted, bright, classic Montevertine red cheery notes with cedar and spice. I think this is a relatively forward vintage, so in a very good place to drink. Maybe I am biased because I love these wines when they are at peak, and this one may have peaked earlier than others and the altitude of the peak might not be as high as other vintages. FWIW, I had a '12 Pian di Ciampolo earlier this month that was perhaps a bigger framed wine, even a bit chewy. I just think that this is in a perfectly lovely place right now, hard to resist!

My very vague recollection is that this was no great shakes as a vintage but the wine certainly doesn't suffer for it. To the contrary, I find the extra touch of restraint very appealing. Quite aromatic and full-flavored; leaves a notably velvety palate impression although there is a bit of tannin in the background. Fine, in a distinctly classy way.

Piaciuto. Solito problema di beva incredibile...

So aromatically pure, silky and harmonious. Still very fresh, with well-buffered acidity. If Tuscany was Burgundy, this is high 1er cru standard. Several years ahead, of course.

Terrific stuff. Succulent, fruity and soft, but not loose in any way. A perfect drinker for that lazy bath and a trawl through the papers. Works for me. Nice drinking now, yet perfect for years to come. Lovely.

Ger vinet 2 timmar i karaff.

This is really good. Beautiful balance and acidity, textbook Sangio. Black cherry, earthy with a subtle note of old oak, leather. Tannins are already integrated. Serious yet charming.

Quite different from the 2007. At first, a distinct smell of freshly sawn fir wood. Supple, juicy cherry-fruited taste with high acidity. Later: citrus in the nose and then spicy sour licorice and in the background an echo of the hallmark blueberry aromas. Interesting now, best with food, and probably better with some more years in bottle.

Wow. This was my first Montevertine, but certainly will not be my last. The wine is ruby colored, with a nose of dusty earth, tart cherry, hints of rose, and hints of stony minerals. The palate is pure delight. Perfectly balanced, with nuanced flavors. This is unbelievably pure and delivers what I have always imagined classic Sangiovese to be. Fantastic.

Ordered a bottle at Hosteria Glass in Rome. After having had the Pergole recently, was curious to try their "regular" wine. Dark ruby. Earth, oak, berries and other red fruit. Fine tannins. Medium plus finish. A very fine (only 12.5% alc), Sangiovese dominated wine. 91-92.

First time we taste the '08 side by side with the '07. And on this evening coolness and freshness wins over ripeness and development. Absolutely fabulous! The world's best pizza wine?

One of the best young sangiovese I had the pleasure to drink. Savory nose with dark cherry, leather and earthy notes. On the palate it is pure velvet. Superb balance between acidity and fruit. Classic sangiovese flavors. Outstanding wine.

Very solid. The mouthfeel is pure silk. Very sour cherries on the palate, great aromatics, and this is unfortunately just too young, as it got better with airtime. 3 ours in the decanter and it just started to flourish. Despite the vintage I would say cellar this for another 3-5 years and retest. 90/91 This is how sangiovese is supposed to be made.

Served too cold and given too little attention at a dinner: decanted an hour before drinking it seemed to be resumed in a kernel of sweet-sour cherry fruit that, I think, appealed more to me than to my guests. Less immediately attractive than the 2007; might be fine in the long run.

Maybe too high rated but can't resist the crispy rhubarb acidity, a sea of minerals, the earthiness and lack of oak. So pure and fresh. Still the traditional sangiovese backbone with cherries and cherry core.

Drunk at Osteria dei cacciatori in Segrate. Ruby red, nose of cherries and violets, lot of minerality. Medium bodied with smooth tannins and lot of acidity. Long finish of cherries. Nice bottle

Decanted and drunk within three hours. The hallmark blueberry and dust nose, very pronounced (one of the tasters present found parsley too). Light-bodied, with a lot of cherry acidity. Perhaps not quite on the level of the 2006 or 2007 in terms of complexity and harmony but very very attractive none the less.
