A perfectly stored bottle since release. A quick 20 min decant was perfect. Almost fully resolved tannins with well judged fruit and overall great balance. Pleasantly surprised with this. No doubt this is in its prime but will drink well for at least 5 more years. The fruit really stole the show here.

Don't know what was missing from a bottle about a year ago, but this one was stellar. All the usual attributes, along with surprising complexity and surprisingly vibrant fruit for a wine this old. Extremely rich and very well balanced, with a great finish. Bought this from the winery for $72. Now, it's $110 (and I don't buy it anymore).

Rich, intense, racy red fruit - very much what I expect from Howell Mountain. There is a lovely dusty dryness on the finish too, though there is some congestion on the mid-palate. Paid $80+ tax for this and that's probably fair pricing.

Previous bottle about a year ago was a religious experience, but this one was merely very good. Opened about 45 minutes before drinking, but it really began to sing after another hour or so. Great body and finish, but missing that extra wow factor. holding up just fine - it may still improve.

WOTN (by far) at a wine-centric party. I overheard several people saying "who brought the Cade?" and "Have you tried the Cade?" Punches way above its weight. Very assertive nose. Extremely rich, showing red, black, and blue fruits along with cedar, spices and minerals. Great finish. I frankly hadn't expected this much from an '08 Napa Cab that got an 88 score from a certain high-circulation wine magazine. Beautifully balanced, and it should last (or even improve) for years.

Exceptional. Incredibly smooth with beautiful tannin structure. A complex great Howell Mountain wine that was great from the pop. Had it for my brothers birthday and it was both a crowd pleaser and gone in no time flat. Really great bottle and sad it was my lone one. 2008 was not even a great year because of the fires that year. I really loved this showing. Highly recommended and I would look for more based on my experience with this bottle. It was the wine of the night.

I drank this in November 2014 and now this year. Both times it was consistently excellent! Very lush, soft and complex with delicious dark fruit coming through. The technical term "dee-lish" comes to mind...as does mellow. This will age, but I'd be concerned about it losing its' beautiful youthful, and at the same time mature, and balanced essence. Fabulous right now!

Paired against a 2010 Altamura. Two tasters preferred the Cade, two the Altamura, but we all agreed both were excellent.
This wine had a wonderful aroma and flavors of dark red fruits and just the right amount of vanilla. Layered, well structured, and delicious. A long finish with fading fruit flavors. This is one of the best balanced wines I've had.
The wine did have a lot of sediment, so be sure to decant carefully.

Absolutely outstanding wine! Concentrated mountain fruit combined with the amazing 08 vintage makes for a blockbuster wine. Aromas of sweet blackberries, cassis, violets, lavender, with more subdued notes of bergamot and huckleberry. The palate is a nice echo to the nose, with all the above marching on in succession. Over the evening the wine keeps getting bigger and more mouth saturating. The tannins are there, and play a supporting role, but never more than is pleasant. The finish is a good 60+ seconds long. Amazing wine from an incredible estate. Easily bests wines twice the price.

Very approachable now, but this seems a step down from when we tasted it at the winery -- not quite as much fruit, and not enough structure to keep interest. That said, a minor quibble, as we still enjoyed the wine. Subtle, well-integrated tannins, with ripe dark fruit and plum aromas and flavors. This does show its mountain origins with some bramble as well. Supple mouthfeel leads to a silky finish with decent length. Lots of (mostly fine) sediment. Screwcap. Paired incredibly well with NY strip. My wife - 93, me - 91. Drink now -- I don't see this improving with age.

Decanted for 4+ hours, this wine is bright ruby in color and showed muted notes of bitter cocoa, black fruits, red currant and anise. The mouth feel was full with tight tannins holding back the release of the black fruits. The finish was medium to long in length but reserved, suggesting that time will give this offering more expressive elements.
Culled from a friend's cellar at a recent dinner with friends featuring Howell Mountain cabs, this was the least expressive of the offerings to my palate. Others enjoyed this more but to me, even with a 4+ hour decant, it was not yet ready. Recommended to try again in 2018+.

We decanted the wine for two hours, poured it back into the rinsed bottle and consumed it over three days. It was dark ruby, almost purple in colour and threw lots of fine sediment. The wine offered a complex nose of elder, black currant, cherry, blackberry, chocolate, spices, clove, liquorice, some leather, some tobacco and a charred wood component. On the ripe palate the wine showed elder, black currant, cherry, some blackberry, coffee, chocolate, spices, cinnamon, liquorice and some tobacco, paired with lively medium-plus acidity, medium-plus tannin, notable heat from the alcohol (15.2% ABV) and very good length. The full-bodied wine had good complexity, with well-handled oak, but the alcohol was out of balanced. The wine drank equally well over three days, yet in my opinion is inferior to the tight, dense, concentrated, powerful 2007.

Tremendous structure and old oak tannins. Everything you want in a Howell Mountain wine. Strong herbaceous tones, tobacco with dark plums. Has a bit of green bell pepper on the finish. Long legs promises this should age very well. Enjoyed it tonight, but will be much better in 2015-2017.

Wine tasting party - I finally opened one of my bottles with a cork and it was worth it. Inky purple in the glass. The nose hits you with tons of fruit, and the flavor is no different. Tons of berries in this fruit-forward wine, with some excellent pepper notes. A long, long finish. Seven of the eight tasters picked this as the wine of the night (the other picked a 2009 Secret de Cardinale.)

Very good wine, but this bottle had a Stelvin closure and didn't match the bottles I've had with a cork. Still, very good. A lot of dark fruit flavors (but not as much as with the cork, which is the main difference.) Wonderful nose and body. A long finish. Alcohol is in perfect balance with the fruit.

nose - blueberry, blackberry, and rocks. This could be a priorat based on the nose mouth - generous rich cassis and dark berry fruit provide an initial wow punch, followed by a lengthy rich midpalate, and serious gum coating tannins. This is a fruit bomb, without being overdone. Delicious juice.

Erin and I both liked the jamminess of the wine...tons of fruit up front, but pretty dry on finish and I thought the oak balance was off (too heavy of oak on end)...overall a good wine for weekday, but at the $70 price point, we'd probably not drink too often

The 2008 Cade was so smooth and delicious. Even right out of the bottle it's amazing. This was one of my favorites from 2008 Napa Cabs. The fruit is lush and the tannins very smooth. I have drank it with big time cab fans who loved it and also fans of other reds who prefer less tannic fruit. All of us loved the wine so this would be good for a person who does not drink a lot of cab.

Funky nose which quickly blew off, hints of heat, dark cherry fruit, with a touch of Howell Mountain briar on the nose, more of the same on the palate, not sure about this wine, finished with a favorable impression but its personality was not outstanding on this day.

Decanted for 6 hours. Lots of red fruits wrapped in silky tannins with a kiss of oak. very good wine that should improve with 5-7 years in the cellar.

Dark red color, opened up well after decanting for an hour. Aromas or dark cherry, blackberry, slightly sweet cigar, oak and vanilla. The taste was dark fruit and chocolate and very balanced with a dry finish. Nice structure. Very nice wine. :)

Honeymoon Wine Tasting; 6/25/2012-7/3/2012 (California - Napa & Sonoma Counties): Tasted at Winery. Dark purple in color, with blackberry and oak aromas. This wine had finely polished tannins for such a young mountain wine, with a moderate length finish. Drinks well now, and will improve for several years.

Erin and I both liked the jamminess of the wine...tons of fruit up front, but pretty dry on finish and I thought the oak balance was off (too heavy of oak on end)...overall a good wine for weekday, but at the $70 price point, we'd probably not drink too often

limited note- bold ripe well delineated fruit from memory. all my notes say is 'delicious'. Bought a bottle at the winery. 'And do you want this in cork or screwcap?'

Currant, blackberries, sweet cigarbox and chocolate. Wonderful bouquet is just the beginning. Mouth filling flavors of dark fruit, chocolate, earth and sweet integrated tannins. Very balanced and delish. Well done Cade!

Funky nose which quickly blew off, hints of heat, dark cherry fruit, with a touch of Howell Mountain briar on the nose, more of the same on the palate, not sure about this wine, finished with a favorable impression but its personality was not outstanding on this day.
