At the sixth day with plum in the taste, some berry-fruit, and hints of laurel and licorice. There is a bit of complexity. Still a little bit of drying tannins, but more resolved than my last bottle. The acidity is OK, but alcohol, tannins and fruit still were not well integrated, which made the impression of a full bodied, a bit burning wine. But there seems enough fruit to keep this wine for some more years, especially when decanted before drinking. For now 88+.

This bottle was horrid. Too figgy/pruney to be worth drinking and down the drain. Upon release, I didn't think this over the top in terms of extraction or ripeness, but this suggests otherwise
Another bottle of a modern ripe Medoc red. This Charmail is a bit alcoholic and harsh after opening. It needs 1-3h, or over night, to open. Solid red, no komplexity. Straight forward ripe Bx. Do not wait with drinking. Let this wine open bevore drinking. Solid but not outstanding.
Second bottle much better in May 2023. Ripe, mediteranian style. Merlot and Petit Verdot dominate this blackberry fruit. Slight alkoholic nose. Good concentration but no kompexity. Tanins are fine. Dry. NO sweetness but have similarity to fruits like in a red LBV Port. Pairing excellent with mediteranian cuisine like Ratatouille and griled beef or BBQ. Real good Bordeaux Cru Bourgeois.

Some brett in the nose. After a somehow interesting attack with some fruit and a mature note, the (quite alcoholic) finish falls rather dead. Compared with my last bottle of 4/3/22 this is a lesser one, but more probably this wine is over its top.
Ripe and modern red Medoc. This Charmail has a dark red note with first carmin reflexing colour. Dark fruits, Merlot and Petit Verdot driven nose. The alkohol is also in the nose. The taste is modern, Merlot and dark fruits driven. Petit Verdot is clear and intense. The Cabs are not remarkable now. My opinion is that the best time to drink Ch. Charmail is 8-12 years after harvest. I drunk this wine over the last years. This Charmail was in best condition in 2021! If you have more than 1 bottle, start drinking this Haut-Medoc in the next time. Do not wait too long with drinking!!!

Color: very dark purple. Nose: Taste: dominated by black berry, with an attractive herbal note. Smooth and harmonious with complexity and an attractive freshness. Only once and a while the alcohol (14%) was a bit disturbing. Perhaps some unresolved tannins indicate that there is some upward potential, but this wine can best be drunk within one, maybe two years, I guess. A very attractive wine! 90.

I have always been a fan of the estate and years such as 2000 can be spectacular at a fraction of the price of equivalent quality wines. This is a solid performer and with a structure that should see it drinking well for the next 5 years or more.

This has a long way to go and may deserve a higher score by 10th anniversary of bottling and onward. Drank over 2 nights and the later it was, the better it was. The last few ounces were the best, smooth and a bit plummy.

i found this quite accessible, if still just a bit tight. There wasn't the tannin the vintage led me to expect, but there is sufficient structure to let it go longer

Served blind Deep ruby with just a hint of garnet at the rim Bright red fruit nose Rather chunky and rustic with drying tannins in the finish, but I think there is enough there to try and age this a bit more. Hopefully it will hold up.

Drank over about 4 hours. Not great but good. The nose is enticing. The palate switches between rusticity and red fruit. I would like to try again in 5 years.

Needs a lot of air now to show its qualities. Still strong on day two, it lost a bit power and fruit compared to my last bottle. No surprise because the wine is in transition from youth to the secondary life phase of a Medoc. Although the tannins are soft maybe it will close down soon for a couple of years. So it probably drink best until 2017 and from 2024 to 2030.

Dark, bold and full bodied. Still nice primary fruit and decent length. Will improve for the next 6-8 years, maybe longer. Had some disappointing experience with former vintages (2003 + 2004) of this Chateau but this one is excellent. Very good QPR.

Popped and poured. Not what I was expecting from jancis Robinson reviews. I found the oak to be very spicy and astringent. Fruit was certainly present but balance was off. Modern end styled but just not ready at this time. Not sure I will buy more.
Chateau Charmail is one of the most reliably excellent wines from Bordeaux that is modestly priced below $25. Served cold, this 2010 bristles with high acidity and drying tannins. But, swirling and warming the wine in the glass moves it toward being smooth and savory, with very tasty blackberry and black cherry. Eminently enjoyable now and for the next decade, much like the superb 2000 vintage of Charmail achieved.

profound nose, lots of cassis and vanilla, quite strong tannin still at the moment, black berries, primay fruity, vanilla again, midweight body, lacking complexity, long, will improve for at least 10+ years, *(*- +- ?), 85- 87+?

Needs a couple of hours to open up, but it gives off some beautiful flowery fragrance, chocolate, some good ole British Christmas Pudding. Before opening up, lots of pencil and berries. The former trumps the later, though if you're in a rush, you could do much worse.

From a blend of 50% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, this has nice fleshy textures, sweet black cherries, licorice, plums and ripe tannin in abundance. This should age for a decade or two with little trouble. This is an outstanding Bordeaux value wine.

Opened a couple of hours before tasting. Color: dark purple. Taste: still a bit tannic. Rich, warm fruit, with a good balance. All typical 2010 Medoc, but at the tasting this wine was a bit to warm and it had a little less concentration than other 2010s. Therefore it had less freshness than others, but nevertheless was a good wine. To drink from 2018 till 2020, probably some two more years (information of the chateau). For now 87; potentially 88, maybe 89.

Tobacco and chocolate notes. Long finish with already mild tannins (though this came at the end of a tasting, so my reaction to tannins may have been dulled). Buying for long-term aging potential.

Tasted at Bordeaux 2010 Arrivage Tasting tonight. Beautiful nose of dark fruits, some minerality and black currant. Medium body with a lot of finesse for a wine of this price range. Perfect harmony between fruit, sweet tannins and some acidity. Fresh and classic Bordeaux with medium-weight. As usual one of the best values of the vintage.
