  • A bit closed on the nose but the palate opens up into a remarkable note of candied pomegranate with great intensity. Quite good.

  • Spectacular.. my favourite Burgundy so far in my very short Burgundy adventure!

The nose.. how amazing the cherry and flower notes were, super fresh and underplaying the fact that this is nearly 2 decades old.

More cherries and raspberries mesmerised my palate, with hints of scented mushroom and earth peeking through. Then comes the amazing long finish.

Nicolas Potel has quickly become one of the leading red wine negociants in Burgundy.

He has a reliable and strong network of growers who operate some of the best vineyard sites. Potel owns no vineyards and buys from some 40 growers.

In Chambertin, vines are planted on gentle slopes, is the grand seigneur or "lord" or King of Burgundy wines.

Gevrey-Chambertin is a village in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits district... and is home to nine grand cru vineyards.

It's wines are of course almost exclusively Pinot Noir, and Chambertin wines are renowned for its body and structure, as well as intensity of aroma and age worthiness too.

Stephen Tanzer described this as an amazing old style Burg from the 1940s, I can only concur that it's brilliant!

    Thanks to @iampatt0 again!

  • Rich aged pinot nose , taste of raisins , raspberries , cherries, other red fruits. Purple tinged on the rim with a light brown.......Day 2 , the brown edge was gone , the raisins were gone , more secondary on the palate though , easier to drink , less to savor, all in all not a great wine but def an interesting wine.

  • If you have not had a 25 year old Chambertin from "the" wine maker, you will get most of the experience with this wine. Excellent nose, fruit and syrup mouth feel all combine to make a delicious treat. Maybe better with time, or just to modern for a improvements.

  • Med red. Intense and intriguing nose of cherry syrup, cinammon, cardoman and pepper. Not quite so thrilling in the mouth, despite the silky, fruity and balanced palate.

  • Once again, this defies expectations for 2003. It's on the ripe side but not in any way that would make you think it's from 2003 - aromas are fresh and no trace of cooked fruit. Very primary mouthfeel and the tannins are very fine but almost imperceptible. Sufficient acidity and finishing grip. Excellent today and approachable but the fruit should mature nicely.
