Jason's belated Birthday: Third Rousseau of my life. Sweet crunchy fruit with a nose to die for. This has a long time to go, absolutely stunning wine. Very tough competition today.

Initially was high acidity and lean, with one hour of air, tannins became sweet and ethereal. Also showing a bit of stems but not distracting. Ready with no upside from here but it’s not going to fall apart anytime soon either with its acidity level. 95+ points.

Slight hint of VA which quickly blew off. The palate is quite long especially at opening, especially in the finish -- skirts the line between aged strawberries, licorice, and noses. Good fruit.
With air time, it gets more integrated, and this is where the wine feels like a poor representation of terroir. Lack of details once all the pieces are in play, other than very pretty rose bouquet that starts at the nose and finishes well into the palate. Once it gets to the tea notes, it never fully feels like it carries anything delicate, other than broad stroke of roses.
Elegant, pretty wine, and a great burgundy, but feels more like the maker than the terroir.

CDLR Dinner (Fort Lee, NJ): Fort Lee Dinner with WJ Lee; Some funk and VA upon opening that muted aromatics. Blew off with time in bottle revealing a rather fine, ethereal wine. More more elegant and lifted than one might expect. By no means was the wine on its last legs, but may be worth opening if holding. Lovely wine and one of the highlights of the evening.

PnP. Gorgeous bouquet from get-go. Tannins mostly resolved, sweet tannins and good acidity, drinking so much better than previous bottle. Good length and complexity, a touch of dryness at backend. Reached plateau and drinking great but no hurry to consume this with its excellent overall balance. Rousseau always delivered.

1995 Clos de La Roche - no decanting. Filigree, fresh nose with a delicate and fine scent of cherries, red berry fruits as well as floral hints. The age shows in a slightly rusty iron note - which intensifies with increasing aeration. On the palate, fine substance, with a very good medium+ acidity, completely melted tannins and a very fine fruit with hints of cherry pits, a touch of white pepper and earthy-spicy hints. Strikingly beautiful harmony - based on a nice structure/firmness on the palate, a nice freshness and the fine fruit. Medium length. For scores >= 95 points it lacks a little depth and length. As it reduces its fruit quite quickly in the glass, it is advisable to slowly drink down any leftovers in the cellar. 93 points 2021-2025

PnP. ABV 13%. A 6-pack bought during EP many moons ago and had been sitting in Octavian until recently. Supposedly part of plot was ripped out in ‘75, so this would have been from 20 years old vines. Fantastic nose, expressive and floral. Tannins mostly resolved, high acidity and a bit lean on the palate, with air this improved slightly over 2 hours lunch but palate couldn’t match the nose. Fingers crossed that acidity will mellow down somehow in the future. Eye-watering secondary market prices tho.

WOTN i hård konkurrens.

Mature, spicy, full-bodied but elegant. Rose petals, truffle, white pepper. An amazing wine that just kept on opening up. Better than recently drunk Clos St Jacques 1995.
Super Tasting 3 of 6 - Dave's Epic Dinner (Kitchener, Ontario): This was really pretty....nose of red currants, spice, flowers and minerals. Palate was a touch drying but there similarly pretty flavours as the nose and a medium + length finish that had nice lift and definition.

Dave's Super Tasting (3 of 6) (Dave's House): Visually more transparent than the Comte Armand served before it with just a little bricking. It evolved rapidly in the glass. Nose of minerals, cinnamon, and was very red fruited: strawberry, cherry, cranberry.

Super Tasting 3 of 6; Dave Does a Mixed Bag (Dave's House): Popped and poured, followed approximately 1.5 hours. Translucent ruby in the glass, with a slight brick. A lovely nose of red fruits; raspberry, strawberry, pomegranate; baking spice, earth, mineral, grated ginger, spearmint, sea air, slightly herbal, akin to cilantro, and a slight touch of wood. On the palate, much more light and less concentrated than the Comte Armand, but certainly a welcome change. Finishes moderate with a slight tannic grip. Not a show stopper, but a well crafted, immensely enjoyable wine.

Knightsbridge Annual Wildman Burgundy Dinner (Trump International Hotel - Chicago IL): Forest floor aromas equally balance blackberry and background woodsy spice. Identical on palate with still firm tannins. Showing more age and balance than many 1995s today, but this is at a very good point right now and it's time to drink up in the next decade.

Fully mature Burgundy with nice texture in the mouth yet of medium aromatic intensity and complexity. Nose shows notes of undergrouth, sweet spice and some stewed berry fruit, clean and healthy but in no way exciting. Palate is medium bodied fruit is fully mature, plummy in character, with dried leaves and some bitter chocolate notes. Acidity is quite high but there is enough extract and fruit to balance it so that overall feel is round smooth and supple. Tannins leave a slightly astringent finish which otherwise is fool of sweet spices and stewed fruit. Good length. Good but not really exciting and rather expensive for its money. I would not keep much longer.

The End of an Era (Farewell, Janet Lynn's Bistro) (Janet Lynn's Bistro): Popped and poured. Intoxicating nose of red cherries, pomegranate, earth, minerality, ginger and baking spices. On the palate, tart red cherries, earth, spice and wet stones. Strong acidity, and some chalky tannin on the short finish. The nose on this wine was absolutely beautiful, and it was a shame that it didn't measure up on the palate. This had faded significantly in the glass by around the 20 minute mark.

Just an absolutely captivating nose with cherry, beetroot, earth and oddly enough a tonne of cinnamon and nutmeg. The palate was showed similar spice, tart red fruit . This is not as full on the palate or the backend as the nose. Length is good but again not as complex on the back end as i would have hoped....drink up if you have it, can't see it getting better.

Dark fruit with layers of flavors. Definitely entering maturity with great notes of sois bois, pine needles, earth as well as mature fruit and a touch of brett. There is still some tannin to resolve, though this does not detract from the wines enjoyment. Nice grip to the palate, which tells me the acidity, is still lively. Nice length on the finish. A terrific showing.
