Caberent Based Lunch (Schur House - Riverwoods IL): Small glass tasted blind. Clearly New World, but in the elegant style from a few decades back that is tough to find any more. Good weight and length, this is wonderfully balanced and textured with enough acidity to keep it fresh.

Cork in great shape, hardly showing any age at all. In the glass, dark with some bricking, it doesn’t look tired.
However, Overwhelming smell and taste of mildew, and not the good “oh, this is an older wine“ type. Some faint mushroom. Not enjoyable at all to drink, almost like a science project with this bad mustiness. I love old wines , and typically some of the best older California cabs have held up, but not this one. Don’t know if this was just a bad bottle, but not something I would drink willingly..

Cork in terrific shape with only a 1/2 inch run and very good fill to right above the neck. I used a pressure device to pop it out. I bought this 20 + years ago but have kept at 53-58 temperature all this time. I read someone's review that said it was dead but probably it was not well kept. This bottle was in good shape. Aromas of damp earth, cedar and berries. Very reticent after one hour but opened with decanting. Tannins were still a bit harsh initially but after two hours they softened significantly. Flavors of cherry and red berry fruit . Wine was actually much more enjoyable after 18 hours opened. Matched well with grilled lamb garnished with mint jelly and accompanied by garlicky green beans. It is however very mature so should be consumed soon if you have any.

Very vibrant bottle that is not showing too much age at 25! Bright ruby red wine that was translucent with a tiny amount of sediment in the bottle. Lively cherry fruit with a hint of strawberry and raspberry. Solid length on finish with some tobacco. Not a ton of complexity but this was about the fruit and lively supporting acidity. Went well with corned beef dinner.

Foresty nose, seemingly less ripe (the 12.5% abv is lower than the previous two years by half a percent), but complex with admirably firm fruit. Very popular at my table.

Still a solid wine. Lovely and classic nose and flavors of an old Cab. 1-2 hours in the nose was even more complex, though the palate was thinning a bit. This is not a great wine, but it is holding up quite well. It still has some life in it but not sure if it will improve with more age.

Seattle Wine Group - Dec 2014 Tasting - Theme: CA Cabs (Amaroso Room - Wine Storage Bellevue): Drinking beautifully. Nose still has lots of fruit still holding on despite it's age. Palate has cassis, currant, graphite, and cedar notes. Tannins are smoothed out. Not terribly complex, but a very nice medium +finish. If this had been in the tasting flight, it would have placed a very close 2nd to the Abreu.

This is one of the oldest wines I've tasted, as old as me! It is hard to describe what makes a high quality Napa cab such as this so incredible, but they are always tell a good story. Must have something to do with the terroir, I assume. Nose of tobacco, cassis, blackberry and also had a particular kick to it. Good.

Decanted off slight sediment to a crystal clear light ruby garnet with some bricking. Intense sweet red cassis nose during decant, with a slight mustiness but that blows off. Consumed over the next couple hours. Surprising intense and very pure red fruit profile with red cassis nose, complicated by saddle leather and mushrooms. Palate of sweet cherry with old leather and lingering black pepper and cherry finish. Tannins are fully resolved to give a very silky profile. Still very much alive, and the pureness of the fruit really shines over the secondary flavors.

This is still a very delicious wine. Two hours after opening it is still holding its own. Nose is still ripe with fruit, some licorice/anise. A little cloudy in color (though I had it on its side until about 6 hours before opening). Still some tannins, suggesting it may last a bit longer. Good fruit in the mouth, though a bit hot. I think this will be good for another few years -- though of course bottle variation is to be expected. I have four more, so will try again in 6-12 months.

A very nice aged bottle of wine, slightly past its best. Cork had seeped and fill was at the neck base. Bricking very evident upon opening but color darkened over time. Improved with 2 hor decant. Nose had some carmel and leather. The body was still very nice, with secondary flavors of leather and earthiness. Fruit was good but stewing slightly. Very balanced. Only 12.5% alc. I enjoy older wines, so not for those looking for a 2009 Caymus experience.

Light in body, color was still very good. Light vegitable flavor upfornt that turns into light berry, smoke and oak flavors. Finish is very nice and lasts a few seconds after the end. Drink now.

This was stored at 55 after purchase many many years ago. Was hidden and forgotten in my cellar until i found it as i was doing a count. I didn't know what to expect out of it since it was supposed to be drunk 4 years ago and thought it may be past it's prime. Nothing was further from the truth.
Cork was wet but didn't break up and had lots of sediment on it. An intense aroma of cedar and berries released
Let it breathe for an hour and tasted. Cedar lingered with a blackberry punch on the taste. Tannins were tame and soft. Lots of poweful fruit released with florals and leather on the nose. Color was garnet red with extreme viscosity on the glass. Long, long, long finish on the tongue with hints of licorice. What a wine. I thought i died and went to heaven. Was approaching peak but by no means dead.

Was probably ready to drink a few years ago. Nothing so amazing, but it was a solid cabernet, soft fruit not huge. Great finish, went well with marinated skirt steak on mother's day.

Still had great nose of blackberry and other dark fruits. Fruit still good on initial taste, but died off with a slight acidic mid palate. Then develop into a reasonably long satisfying finish. Still had some tannins, and could possibly still last a year or two. Probably past its prime but still not bad for a Saturday night.

Vertical tasting 92, 97, 02 and 06. the range was chosen to provide perspective on how the wine ages over time. The years did vary but the wine maker and where the grapes come from have not changed. 92 - Solid for it's age, color was good slightly brown on the edge but over -all impressive. Body was good but light, fruit was pleasant, no great after taste or finish. I love the 92 and have drank it off and on over the last 12 years. I have 3 more, I beleive they will last another one to two years with out a problem.

On the downside with some oxidized notes, but still very enjoyable. Good fruit, slight mocha. Short finish, but nice aromatics on the palate. Great pairing with filet, butter-poached shrimp, risotto cake and baby zucchini.

Wow. After 11 years, it’s still incredibly full of cherry and berry fruit, some leather/tobacco and cedar undertones. While you can taste the oak, it’s not overpowering. Mellow tannins, bright acidity, it's just so smooth. Very nice.

Decanted and aerated 2 hours prior to consumption. Cork broke upon opening, however, the it was a fantastic bottle of wine.
It had a delicious balance of aged wine fruit and fresh fruit that made it out-standing. It is definitely at its prime.
Drank next to a 1990 Pichon LaLande Comtesse and most people preferred the Caymus (the PLC was also delicious, just more feminine).
Outstanding
