A "Burgundian" Dinner (Chez Nick): Fantastic - immediate reaction was "oh yeah!", as whilst tonight's other wines were mostly in their drinking windows, this one was properly *in the zone*. Really quite savoury and sensual, and still with plenty of juicy fruit. A real pleasure, and excellent with the cheese.

A Burgundian evening at Nick's (Chez Nick): My notes were rather on the wane at this point (and so was I). They say "lovely" and "sweet", which is all rather predictable. What I will say is that this seemed to be in fine shape for a 25 year old Burgundy and that you should not be too worried about any drinking windows that you may come across, especially with 1er Cru and above. I'm basically awarding points for longevity.

Burgundian dinner (Chez Nick): Developing beautifully: has the energy of youth with red fruit, dried rose petals and a sweet, meaty edge. Really compelling nose - heady and profound - less wonderful on the palate but very enjoyable.

Nick's Burgundian dinner (North London): This was a recent auction win from Ian. Nose has an expensive furniture polish element (in a good way) but still some good dark rich plum. Nice palate with spiced plum, red currant - deep fruited but good cut for a fresh finish. Excellent shape for the age.

6th of 6, opened 30 minutes, much travelled cork though perfect level, colour still youngish, fruit diminished, slightly dry tannin obtrusive, hint of taint on back palate and nose, well off best. Just F (17.5).

5th of 6, opened 40 minutes, perfect cork and level, as my 2014 note, wonderful grip, persistence and balance, just a trace of dry but fine tannins. Very fine (18.5/20).

4th of 6 bottles, previously unenthusiastic as wine closed and hard work, so not tasted for 4 years, now a stunner, mid red, lightening on rim, enchanting nose of fresh plums, some game, sous bois with a dusting of spice, wonderful persistence and drive on the palate, tannins beautifully absorbed by classy fruit and not a bit over extracted, should improve further....it followed Las Cases 90 and was not in the least outclassed. Very fine (18.5/20).

Cork crumbled. dank nose but stink cleared after some time then offering up dark fruit, earth, spice. On palate quite big earthy fruit but not in harmony with big coarse woody tannins.
