Thanks Leon for this unforgettable BD dinner with this marvelous wine! We we opened the bottle, we were so worried that this wine was dead as it was so close. After 6 hours in bottle it slowly woke up even with cloudy brick color, the aroma showed complicate forests, mushrooms, herbs etc. but later 1-2 hours, the dry rose bursted out. That’s interesting! However the palate and after taste was still boring...

Had a couple of bottles of 1999 Gaja Langhe Nebbiolo Sperss before this real beauty and the world most coveted and expensive wine. Seriously enough, this is first time and probably the last time I will ever had the chance to drink this. Personally, felt that the wine is still tight and youthful. Red fruits dominated. Tasted at Valentino Singapore.

A Dinner Featuring Two 1998 DRC Wines (Friends' House, San Francisco): Opened 3 hours earlier. Same ruby core color as the Richebourg, but this began to lighten about half way toward the rim. Completely different and utterly seductive nose, which just kept expanding and changing-soft red berries, plum, spice, smoke, and just a hint of green. More and more secondary perfume along the way. Much less strident and stemmy than the Richebourg. More lacy and light on the palate, but whereas the Richebourg attenuated somewhat, this actually picked up some sap. Subtle sweetness of fruit and great, integrated acidity more so than heavy tannins keeps it fresh and will preserve it. While it is more advanced and ready than the Richebourg, I also think that this will hold for 15 more years, just becoming even more haunting, ethereal, and fading ever so slowly into its autumnal phase. A rare pleasure despite 1998 not being an all time great vintage for this cuvée. Many, many thanks to our incredibly generous friends for providing these 2 wines.

Super refined and elegant and a wine that demands to be approached rather than showing off. There are so many gorgeously pretty things going on including raspberry and pomegranate fruits, ginger, sweet earth and minerals. The palate is a kaleidoscope of paisley and pastel things and as is the case with Romanee-Conti, it is a wine of perfect shape. There are no hard edges, not a hair is out of place yet it beguiles with all sorts of unobtrusive elements that collectively form near perfect wine.

In a flight with the Romanée-Conti 2000 and 2004, this is decidedly different; it doesn't show the nose of confidence as the others do. A vegetal element, or something. On the palate this is very solid but perhaps lacks the elegance of the best from this vineyard. However, there is fantastic vitalilty and length here - nice wine. Aubert relayed that this is "becoming civilized - it was wild," and Allen said taht this bottle was not as good as others that he has had.

98년이 워낙 부르고뉴 망빈이라 걱정했던 와인. 오픈한 순간 화려한 향이 주위를 압도. 단 맛은 향에 비해 조금 떨어지는 수준. 빈티지의 한계인가?
