Great aromas of roasted beef, blackberry, smoke, and black pepper. Dense and bold with a wonderful core of pure black fruits and peppery spices. Nice depth and layered with good zippy undertones and a modest chew. Impresive finish and good length. Really good and surprisingly balanced for such a hot year. A real knockout, just showing a hint ot two of age on the edges. Thanks Angelo and Longitud315.
Decanted for two to three hours. Still extremely young (no surprise), tight on the nose, but on the palate it was very accessible. Still very young, but worth opening one if you have a few. It didn't have the depth that I expect from good vintages of La La's.
Close to off the charts, this stunning wine delivers a deeply colored, full bodied, fat, intense drinking experience, with loads of smoke, licorice, incense, caramel and blackberry liqueur essences. I'd give this another 5-8 years in the bottle and it should really rock your world.
At 12 years of age, this is still young. It's all about the promise. And there is a lot of promise here. The wine needs time, perhaps another decade. Else, give it a 3/4 hours of air. There is an ocean of concentrated, ripe, fresh, sweet fruit, silky, smooth tannins and a finish that could last close to 60 seconds. But it's quite unevolved today. This bottle was given very little air. A bottle last year, with a few hours of air (was as hard as this is to believe), even more expressive.
Drunk with Gina at The Market at the Shangri-La and one of the very finest wines i have ever tasted let alone Cote Rotie young but getting into tertiary flavours oak is softening ,cedar black berries, even some blue long and can still taste it 3 days later Wonderful
Potentially this is the wine of the year for me, and it's only October! There are great wines, and there is 2003 Guigal La Landonne. For years, La Mouline stood at the top of the Guigal pyramid to me. But this bottle took me by surprise! Picture liquefied minerals, thyme, fresh, ultra ripe boysenberries, earth, violets and black raspberry blended into an intoxicating perfume. Add layer after layer of perfectly ripe fruit, a hint of cocoa, spice, sweetness and purity, with all the lift you'll ever need, yet it's able to keep it's fleshy, sensuous texture on your palate for well over 60 seconds!
Most expensive wines are overpriced. This is the real deal!
97(+) pts
Tasted blind. Medium (+) garnet, with some streaks of brown. The nose is medium (+) in intensity, complex and developed, with bacon fat, smoke, tar, leather, black olives and black fruit predominating. The palate is dry, with medium (+) alcohol, acidity, tannins and minerality This is a medium (+) bodied wine, with medium (+) flavor intensity and length of finish. It is drinking well now and showing ample signs of age. Frankly, I would not sit on it more than a few years.
Tight as a… OK, I’ll say drum. With coaxing, crushed stone, blackberry, flowers, herbs, forest floor, bay leaf and herb scents, this is the most powerful of the trio. The wine coats every nook and cranny of your palate with voluptuous layers of fat, dense, rich, dark, mineral driven fruits. Deep and concentrated, this is intensity matched with purity and power. Masculine, yet graceful, this stunning wine should last longer than most people reading this note.
A massive wine. Still extremely dark in color. In the bouquet beautiful garrigue, smoke , chocolate, mocha, graphite, black fruits, black olives. etc. On the palate an enormous concentration, lushness, fruits, powerful tannin, good acidity and bitterness. Much too young, but a great potential to become something incredible. For now 98, but I wonder what it will taste like a decade form now, so in 2023. 100 points is not impossible…. 98++
Intense, but not very distinct, ripe smell with notes of bacon. Fullbodied, dark, concentrated, sweet and salty, raisiny, tough, complex, but eventually cloying. Hot finish, tarry aftertaste, smoked prunes.
Goddamn! To me this is what great Syrah is all about. Such a big and great pure wine this is! Huge, dark, deep, with the smoked animal tones, tar, cigar/cedar, the finest booth black & white pepper, anise and the barnyard and souse-bois complexity thing that only a truly great wine can deliver. Such a great nose! Unbelievable. Very straight forward juice, but on the other hand still as complex as a woman. On the palate the fruit is deep and full and darker than a solar eclipse. Earthiness and concentration and layers of deepest, most beautiful fruit came in waves. There are traces of the hot vintage, but not at any point disturbing. Such beautifully toasted expensive oak bariques this wine has spent it’s 42 month in before being bottled. I almost lack words to describe this wine. It has so much of everything going on, and for so long. La,la,la!!!
