Clean fresh and pale, the wine is a delight to drink. It quickly gets lost though among other white Burgundies, even if they are all Chablis. Moderate detail and finish. Perhaps I should not expect more from a Premier Cru.

This was perhaps the star of a great Chablis tasting this weekend. We gave this wine the tall order of following a Paulee-style tasting of 35 Grand Cru Chablis wines from various producers and vintages. Prior to the tasting, I wondered if this 1er Cru might show up many of the Grand Crus that preceded it...and it did. This wine simply exploded from the glass with a salty, seashell nose. It was youthful still and extremely powerful. Complex wine. Even more delightful once the food hit the table - this wine is deserving of great food for the full gastronomic experience! Another huge winner from Raveneau.
Excellent. Even better than I remembered it being, and I loved it the last time I drank it. So fresh, with loads of lovely citrus fruit and minerality. This is what Chablis is all about, just drinking great.

Off the same list as the 2009 MdT had couple months ago...this 2010 Butteaux was another SUPER delightful Chablis! One sniff and I knew we were in for another treat! Little more energy edge in this one compared to the perfectly balanced, and creamier 09 MdT...the Butteaux was all about that classic Rav waxiness and spearmint nuance, crystalline purity and polished orchard fruits...lemon/lime squeeze acidity, salty sea air, crushed oyster shell minerality...SO fresh and cut with energy, yet creamy and chalky with a mouthful of pleasure. Raveneau...THE best wine EVER to drink and stare off at the ocean! LOVE them!

Saturday lunch gathering (Bethesda, Maryland): Expressive youthful nose displaying opulent yet pure yellow fruit with a hint of white, fresh apple juice, lemon oil, honeysuckle, beeswax, cool mountain stream, steel, saline, spicy spices and limestone. Perfectly integrated palate, finely layered pure sweet yellow fruit, rich and generous yet also focused and precise, bright acidity and strong limestone mineral, and a long concentrated pure yellow fruit driven finish with beeswax and honeysuckle at the end. Although Raveneau Chablis lack the finesse of top Chevalier Montrachets, I find them equally enjoyable, magically combining richness and opulence with exceptional precision and focus. This is so darn delicious, kinda wine that I can drink all day!

A lost Friday afternoon gathering – COVID safety measures - Mostly Blind (Reston, Va): Perfectly mature yet youthful nose displaying rich yellow fruit, lemon and apple, noticeable mint, white chocolate, honey, cool mountain stream and limestone. Perfectly harmonious palate, very finely layered subtle yellow fruit, exceptional harmony and precision, bright acidity, strong mineral, and a seamless long yellow fruit driven finish with mint and honey at the end. I notice the yellow wax capsule so obviously Raveneau but it also shows telltale signs of the top quality Chablis. My guess is the 02 as it shows beautiful maturity. Most guesses are Valmur or Blanchots. Drinking incredibly well.

Small glass from Coravin bottle at a bar - confirming the strength of Raveneau 2010s. Fresh and young still with good weight and surely futher development potential for a decade +. Not quite as good as the Montee Tonnerre 10, Blanchot 10 or Clos 10 of course but these 2010s are all in the same (strong) vein.

Excellent concentration, finely layered generous rich yellow fruit, good energy and focus, bright acidity, strong wet stone mineral and a long rich yellow fruit driven finish with a hint of lanolin and honeysuckle at the end. This has improved since my previous bottle in 2015, which was a stellar Chablis to begin with. Today I find mint, sea breeze, and honeyed florals on the broad, intense nose. Man, this wine is alive with acid and lemon and incredible cut. Cold at first, as it warms, oyster shells and seawater and briny goodness.

Some Wines from a Spring Trip to France; 4/4/2015-4/11/2015 (Paris and Burgundy): Light yellow. Ripe lemon and blood orange scents. Tasted beside the 2010 Dauvissat Clos, this was almost fat in comparison. Of course, it is not, but it does have the telltale Raveneau creaminess and hazelnut. Terrific back end acidity and a hint of stone. Drinking surprisingly well now but built for the long run.

Decanted and poured, this wine show little development with a somewhat stern personality over the course of its consumption. This bottle contrasted with the recently tasted and more generous 2011 Raveneau "Vaillons". This bottle shows similar components and characteristics to a bottle tasted on release; however, on this occasion the wine is more reserved and lean. At this stage the wine gives detailed aromatics and an austere palate that gives a medium length finish and racy, crisp acidity. Based on this showing, the wine will benefit from a at least a couple years of additional bottle age.

Decanted and poured, this wine benefited from airing. The wine offers aromatics of lemon zest, chalk, oyster shell, sea salt and floral notes. The color is a vibrant, very light yellow. The light to medium bodied palate shows a lengthy finish with crisp acidity. Airing gives the wine depth and nuance. This wine gives the impression that it will benefit from additional bottle age.

The impression of winter mountain stream, saline, lemon zest, slightly unripe pear, limestone and honeycomb. Incredible minerality like licking a block of salt and piercing acidity makes the wine very tense. Need time. I know its infanticide to bust young Raveneau but I have a problem. This was absolutely superb and every bit as good as their 2010 MdT. It had a nose of preserved lemons coupled with real rainwater purity. In the mouth it is so rich and textural but with awesome tension. It is loaded with so much geological material that is it was a junior miner it would go into trading halt before announcing to the stock exchange that it had struck a serious deposit.

A Day in Chablis: Butteaux 1er Cru—Vineyard is at the top of Montmains. It has a higher concentration of clay, which really shows in this wine. It doesn’t show a slate minerality, but a softness, even an almost dead middle for now (I get the same from lots of Grenache Blanc). I think this will age the best of the 1er crus.

Tasted over 2 hrs
-translucent light gold
-ripe orchard white fruits and citrus faint caramel/vanillin
-med+ acidity imparts perfect energy without detracting from the soft texture, med- weight but oh so sappy tangy citrus minerality, moderately long finish
-better than a bottle a few years ago, drinking extremely well now and starting to turn the corner into early maturity, classic understated powerfully elegant Raveneau style

This is drinking so well. The nose offers some mint, loads of citrus, smoke, seaspray and butter. It is rich and layered with intense grapefruit and preserved lemon fruits. It has such great texture yet detail is superb as you feel every rocky bump. The finish is dry and it lingers for a long time on the palate.

Winos' excellent adventure in France; 6/22/2017-6/27/2017 (All over France): Rich yet energetic and precise nose displaying decadent white fruit, pear, granny smith, a hint of lemon, saline, rain, wet rock and strong honey. Excellent concentration, fresh pear and mineral driven palate impression, bright acidity and a long clean energetic finish with a strong honey note and mineral at the end. Drinking beautifully in a very youthful way.

Man, this wine is alive with acid and lemon and incredible cut. Cold at first, as it warms, oyster shells and seawater and briny goodness. Still so youthful, it is full of acid and energy at this point. After an hour or so the last drop butterscotch goodness. This is terrific. With my deconstructed lobster pot pie it was all win.

Intense nose of tidepool, oyster shells, and a briney minerality. Fresh and very sharp. On the palate this is also intense and still quite wound up. Big lemon and lime citrus flavors with saline minerality throughout. Big but focused. Enjoyable now but still very green.

Very long aftertaste, and good concentration that fills your mouth With complex notes. Drank at l'univerre at 70 euro. Was looking a long time at the coche corton charlie 1986 at 2000 euro ...

Subtle, not flashy. Very linear and tightly strung. Steel mineral and lemon fruit. Struck me as just peeking out to the world. Hold 2+ years.

Francois's 70th Birthday Celebration - Kelly and Kevin's another excellent adventure; 2/26/2016-3/1/2016 (Paris and Bordeaux): Much more expressive than the clos drank at lunch. Beautiful open nose displaying white fruits, pear, apples, a hint of beeswax and mineral. Good concentration but clearly not as concentrated as the clos, quite refreshing and precise, nice acidity and lovely long clean finish. Not as serious as the clos, but perfectly delicious.

Domaine Raveneau (@ Rotterdam, Netherlands): Very old vines. Closed on the nose, but gives the mineral tones with the touch of sea and citrus. Tight, firm and structured in the mouth with intense fruit and the juicy, precise acid. Tighten the output with mineral touch. Great length. This will need a long time in the basement.

Need time. I can easily imagine this being more impressive than the 10 MdT but drinking a week apart, I prefer the MdT for its roundness.
