This wine remains a singular experience - and at 12 years, still fresh and appealing. Nose a mix of floral notes of rose, crunchy cranberry, some strawberry, and a hint of cherry, with tons of stony minerality. Palate more crunchy fruit and mineral driven. Holy cats, this is one serious wine. No hurry to drink this. The acid and refreshing structure and lack of any heaviness or overripeness surprises from a fairly warm region. The complexity is remarkable at the $. If you prefer big oaky, fruity, high alcohol California Zin or Cab, this is decidedly not your bottle.

A very singular wine in the best sense. Nose floral with roses and violets an crunchy red berries. Stony notes too. Herbal and tea hints. Palate still fresh. Red bramble and stony fruit and potpourri. Hints of va. Very long mineral and fruit driven finish. Wow!

Extremely aromatic, nose similar to Gewurztraminer, but possibly even more aromatic. Extremely floral, so much so it's hard to place. Almost black in color, even at 9 years old. Black pepper, clove, and every flower you can imagine. On the palate it just disappears, very little to no tannin. Spicy on the palate but light bodied. This could work similar to a rose for food pairing, but is black as night in color...

I was lukewarm on this wine upon release, and much less positive now. Weirdly floral in a manner that made me think of Gewurztraminer (!) with jammy back berries. I didn't enjoy this when popped-and-poured. No change an hour later.

Very similar to the last note. Hanging on just fine, despite the expired drinking window. Again shows the perfumed rose and pansy nose. Definite note of tea. Medium bodied, ripe, but dry and reasonably smooth, ripe cherry fruit, not overly long finish, but tasty.

Nose of potpourri that is heavy on rose hips and violets. Juicy and full of acid, the juice zips across the palate with floral notes and a hint of raspberry tea. Entirely pleasurable and fairly unique.

Thick on the palate. Very soft & mellow tannins. Blackberry jam and dried almost potpourri-like flowers. (Which I guess makes this varietally correct.) I liked it, but my wife wanted nothing to do with it. A touch more acidity wouldn't hurt this particular bottle, but it's a very decent wine. We had it with roast chicken and vegetables, and while it didn't clash, I can't say it was the right move, either -- but then I'm not exactly sure what is. Kocha-buta? (There's a black tea thing going on here.) Pork with spices and star anise? (Ditto those.) It would be fun to play with.

Dont get the disasterous reviews on this wine. Complex, fragrant and nuanced on the nose, juicy and with good fruit. Lacrima does have a very polarizing fruit profile, nose is very perfumed, almost Chanel so. Palate is very dry, full of plummy cherry fruit with interesting tarry, violet notes. Good wine, and for the price excellent.

Left a note 2 years ago, had another and not impressed with progression. In fact, this is not improving at all. While the color and bouquet are fine, the tastes are just weird. It is light and fruity like Gamay, but strange conflicting tastes not normally found in wine--almost artificial in quality. I do not recommend.

The nose is all hand soap, rose water, and old lady perfume. Thin palate, some dark fruit, peppery finish. Reminds me of Cru Beaujolais in the artificial grape kind of way. Weird stuff, unlikely to improve.

This was WOTN at the Seder at G and A's judging by the quickly emptied bottle. (I preferred a Vouvray, but no knock here--this is delicious.) Although tannins are present in this dark red, it's still pretty soft--the tannins are just so velvety and smooth. It had a little of the quality of Carmenere in the tannins, but lacked the green flavors I sometimes find in the Chilean star. The fruit wasn't obvious here, but it was present--a little plummy. Lots of perfume to the nose--some roses, more fruits. This worked nicely with the dried fruit that went alongside the chicken. I don't think this is going to improve tremendously, so I will probably drink my last bottle soon.

An "interesting" wine doesn't always mean it's good....the fruit is too funky and too forward such that it's out of balance. Wife couldn't finish the glass as it simply didn't work with the meal due to its too-strong presence. Another Garagiste head-scratcher

Stunning nose of plum and violet; very perfume-like. Plum and sour cherry on the palate, roast meat and charcuterie, fresh white peppe, tar and pine. Well balanced; excellent accompaniment to Prosciutto di Parma. I regret not buying more of this at $14 a bottle from Garagiste.

I would consider this a rather extreme and eccentric wine - very jammy and primary with lots of blackberry and boysenberry aromas with cracked black pepper support. this wine is not as profound as a "92" point rating might suggest but it is, for me, the consummation of a quest that began probably 6+ years ago with a wondrous glass of lacrima at Delfina Pizza this wine is every bit as good--even better, in fact--than my memory of that glass at define. it's like a cru beaujolais grown on volcanic soils. intensely fragrant nose, light and playful fruit counterbalanced by a firm, earthy, mineral-soil note. long finish. very light on its feet, but invigorating and engaging. will be adored by beauj-heads (like me).

First Larcrima I can remember having. Initial impression was wow, that is dark purple. Nose was white pepper, cured meats and spicy herbs; almost reminded me of some Spanish Garnacha. Interesting wine. Much more New World style than Old, with a very perfume driven nose of rose petals, dark fruits, and slight pencil shavings. Palate was very sweet with the dark fruits most prominent. Not what I expected really, and a bit too sweet for my liking. I will give this a few years to settle down a touch, and I'm hoping the sweetness dissipates a bit.

Color is a beautiful jewel-tone purple with violet rim. Almost a Gamay-like fruit on the nose, perhaps a bing cherry note. First sip coats the mouth with a fine powder of tannins, mid-palate fruit with the sensation that this is very seamlessly smooth with no blunt edges. Much lighter weight than I was expecting. Some alcohol at finish tells me this has a ways to go to integrate, though. Trying this a bit young, for sure. There is something almost candy-like about this fruit with the that keeps you sipping addictively. Just tried with some chicken Parm and the only other comment I would make is that this does not seem to have a lot of acidity so it did not really set off the tomato sauce. Great sipping wine, though, and would probably be delicious with a thick, peppered pork chop.

Dark purple. Nose and initial taste very primary: cracked black pepper. Distinctive and interesting. Secondarily there are Gamay like red fruits and dust. Medium/light finish. Nice pairing with beef. Not an elegant wine but a unique and honest one. Bottle two; serious meat like elements along with the pepper. Very reminiscent of Syrah/Cote Rotie. Tastes like roasted, bbqued beef. Still very primary, basic, and interesting.

Opened and poured through a Vinturi into a decanter. Upon her first sip, my wife said, "Wow! I like this a lot!", and she was right. This is one delicious wine! Beautiful clear red color with a tremendous nose - so many fruit flavors, it was hard to pick them all out. Light-to-medium body with a great mouthfeel. Long finish. - I love this wine! Crimsom color with medium forming legs and aromas of violet, rose, orange blossom, peach and cherry. It's balanced and has flavours of violet, cherry, strawberry jam and hazelnut with a light/medium body. Bright texture with a medium finish - This wine is all about the nose! Incredible floral attact on the senses. The wines flavors are good but the nose is SO seductive it's almost disappointing to taste. I said almost because this is better than many Chianti. I tasted this and bought the bottle at the winery in Le Marche earlier this month and they make a couple of big brothers with more structure and complexity, all with this amazing front end.

Garagiste selection.
Color: Dark purple
Nose: medium-full intensity. Gobs of flowers -- rose; violets; wild flowers. Spices
Body/flavor: medium; Rounded complex flavors of flowers and dry berries. Great balance.
Aftertaste: lingering
Opened several years after recommended time frame. Amazed by balance and mellow aroma and flavor
